I sent an email to my contact about this today and he me...

Did he say how the car got to the junkyard? It doesn't look like a test prototype judging by the absence of covers in the interior and exterior.
It might have been a private preview show car?

MB world W222 are not happy. Member streamliner shared this:
In February of 2018, I participated in a new car survey. The main subject was the upcoming All Electric “EQS,” and they had an early, pre-production model there, that we could sit in. In addition, they had a Tesla Model S, Audi A8, Porsche Panamera, BMW 750, an MB E350 Sedan AND a pre-production “W223” S Class sedan. It was a very long event, lasting several hours. Afterwards, I participated in a round table discussion, which centered mostly around the EQS. As usual, I was outspoken and told them, flat out, that I HATED the look of the EQS and that the S Class sedan they had there was just GORGEOUS!

In May of 2018, I was invited again to do a follow up. They had the same cars there, but this time, the “W223” had the extended grill “snout,” and a few other changes, which I felt, really messed up the look of the W223 I had seen in February. Of course, I told them so.

Anyway, the exterior of the car shown in this thread, is pretty much the EXACT same as what I saw in May of 2018. The only thing I really remember about the interior of that car was the huge screen in the center stack and it looks almost exactly the same.

For me the interior reminds me a lot of the Vision GST. The large piece of wood spanning the width of the cabin along with the screens and central area overlaping. Additionally the way the dash blends in with the doors is actually almost identical...

No, but they know how it happened. I’m sure when I’m well enough to video chat I’ll get more details.

No surprise about Streamliner’s perspective, he’s a very traditional MB customer.

As much as he can whine at times about little features about modern MBs, I appreciate Streamliner’s input when I browse the W222 section of MBworld on occasion. He’s the last of his kind on that site(old school and decades long faithful). Not surprised MB invited him to multiple clinics, which is very rare.

To be honest, the interior is IMO, Mercs recent best, just NOT S Class worthy.

And the good thing about Mercs is they had no lights on trunk lids, this one has, don't like.

Pretty much as expected. I can live with it - it's not especially beautiful but it seems right for the time. It's a thumbs up from me (y)

Love to read..in the reality, the mb fans will still buy the s class and the rest will be divided, some will move to the competition based on the design int/ext combination, some will come from competition because they will like this different but not so elegant new approach
But the sense of front space thanks to the new dash design...the rear is clear the same space like former SWB mb

It's not because of laziness and incompetence.
There must b...

Anyone who says designing a new car can be done lazily is just plain clueless. Now can you mess up the design, sure. Can you create something ugly, sure can, but it isn't the result of laziness. It's the result of poor vision, no imagination (see Cullinan), or in this case IMO the overwhelming influence of the Chinese market. The E-Class facelift looking like a Chinese Benz knockoff is no coincidence.

So...i decided to make a comparison between the 223 and 2...

Yep, the W222 looks way more desirable - even in today’s standards (minus the large bezels on the screen). What ever happened to that luxurious floating wheel?

The W223 interior belongs in a Tesla Model X, Porche Taycan styled car. Too Audi A8 for me. Heck even the GLS looks more luxurious at this point. Maybe it’ll feel at home in the EQS.

It doesn’t look like you can pair a lot of different options and materials on that dash in comparison to the W222.

If I was to sit in that car as it stands, I’d have no idea I was in an S class. The same can’t be said about the W223.

They have come up with a host of stunning concept for the past years (Maybach 6, EQS concept, AVTR) but why on earth did they decide to let the car look like this?
I mean, if they (designers) had used a lot Maybach 6 cues, that could have end up like a W222 - homerun.
But no. I remeber one time Wagener told journalists that the next S-Class will look in the inside like a gamestation.
Well done, my friend. The W223 now looks like a Playstation inside and a 2014 Audi A8 on the outside.

Oh god. We were better off without this leak. This thr...
What are you on about mate, this is the best thread in ages.

Funnily enough, I'm less concerned about the interior - which I feel looks very intriguing - and am more sceptical about the bland exterior styling. Time and less tape will tell.

I'm really interested to see what MB will do with the interior regarding colour and trim options. There's potentially quite a bit of scope for a number of combinations.

I just came here to see if all the spy shots I've dumped on my dashboard have been posted here yet. LOL

I guess this car was not designed to view it from upfront nor upback..from other angles, especially from the side,it would look the part.

Having a big tablet in the middle of the console is like a very lazy design execution and cost cutting method. Exterior though will be well accepted especially side profile judging from the spy shots.

For me the interior I'm betting will work in different colors and official pics or seeing it in person etc. It's the rear end that is the biggest problem for me. That look works on the GLE, GLS, GLC, and FL E, but not here. It should have been something different. Mercedes is fooling everyone lately. Everyone was up in arms about the rear of the FL E, but it's the front that got that ass lol. Now it's the interior most are complaining about with the new S, but you watch it's going to be brilliant when presented, its the rear end that will smack that head against the ground. Watch and see.
