The S-class will hit a sales snag due to the significant global downturn, but I imagine it's more immune compared to its direct competitors.

but I imagine it's more immune compared to its direct competitors.
More immune why? Does the S-class wash its hands more than the rest?

Actually I think it is the opposite since the S would go to market as scheduled in the midst of uncertainty, and its competitors (7, A8, XJ) would just renew themselves in a few years, when everything would be back to normal

I think Mercedes will delay the launch of the S class because of the virus. Otherwise it could end badly for the new model. In the current uncertain economic situation, such a step could lead to disaster.
Another issue is the fact that even if the situation calms down, who will be interested in a luxury car during the crisis. I think Mercedes has a very hard nut to crack.

I heard it washes it’s hand for 30 seconds instead 20. idk though... rumors on the streets.

I heard it stocked with hand sanitizer and toilet paper for at least the next year.

LOL, if you read what I wrote, I said more immune than its direct competitor. I did not say it's not immune at all to a global economic downturn. An S-class, compared to a 7er or an A8, has better brand equity than the rest, as indicated by how well it sells even as the W222 is coming to the end of it life-cycle, how well it sells compared to its competitor, and how well they retain their value compared to its competitor.

Also, much will depend on how badly the economy tanks, which, by all indications, it's going to be pretty damn bad. So this is new ground regarding how successful a modern S-class will be in these dire times of not only financial but, more importantly, human losses. I am pretty confident that all car debuts, S-Class included, will be delayed so as to best assess and then execute a successful market launch in these very odd times.

Now as far as how often an S-class washes their hands... most S-classes I've seen are kept in rather immaculate condition, unless it's a few generations older. Then their hygiene is a bit more questionable. Some of the diesel engines of yore tend to sound like they have a terrible cough and a rough idle. ;)

Of course it will be delayed. Not only because the economic situation but because there is still a lot of work that should be finished but now is stopped. All the tests should be completed, but for this is needed working personal. All the certificates must be acquired but for this is needed working authorities. It will take some time while we are all back to our normal working modus.
Later, when the car is introduced, the problems with the sales will be quite big, depending on the economic and social situation. Not only less people will be able to afford it, but also in a times like this, when a lot of new unemployed will emerge will be a demonstration of insolence to buy a new luxury car. There is a risk of stigmatizing the owners. We do not remember the times after WWII, but driving an expensive car at the time being was taken in a bad way.

It look amazing. One doubt, will it be from a near past? Doesnt look like with the kind of traffic around. If so it would have been atleast coupe of weeks back.

From this video I see 2 things:

1.That dash is HUGE ! And confirmed.

And my question is : Why?

I hope they will use the "free real estate" in combination with augmented street view , or something. Otherwise , I don't understand why would you put that huge screen in front of the driver

2.Does it have dynamic turn signals? It looks like it (min. 1:35)

Side profile is very good. Reminds me of the W220 or, speaking of going to the gym, it is if the W222 went to the gym to get a little leaner, getting rid of some mild flabs around the hips.

Or, maybe, I, too, am projecting and need to hit the gym....once things open up again.

Too many screens you’ll get a headache on the way home. Hopefully the elegance can prevail in uber nice materials and trim pieces. Time will tell nonetheless I’m ready for them to undress this stallion. also does anyone else hate the new goofy looking steering wheel on the standard models?

I apologize for the image posted, I know it is a bit dated, but it was an example to better understand what I am about to say. I noticed that the screen behind the driver is almost rectangular in size compared to the square one seen in the last spy photos: do you think there will be two different types of dimensions, such as for example the normal door handles or retractable?

This interview with Daimler chief is quite insightful, he has mentioned none of the R&D is being stopped and split the entire team into two part to continue the development activities.

According to this interview with Ola Källenius no development activities have put on hold but divided team into two and progressing developments. Which mean now its purely on market & economic slow down will decide the premier of W223

R&D of a certain car is not conducted by the manufacturer alone. The suppliers also participate in this process so it's not just up to Daimler. They need also functioning authorities in order to get all the certificates that a new car needs.
