Grecale [Spy Shots] 2022 Maserati Grecale

The Maserati Grecale (Tipo M182) is a front-engine, five-door, five passenger compact luxury crossover SUV (D-segment) manufactured and marketed by the Maserati subdivision of Stellantis, entering production at the company's Cassino Plant in March 2022. Internally designated model M182, the Grecale shares the company's Giorgio platform with the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and the fifth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee. The nameplate Grecale derives from the Mediterranean wind, Gregale.

I like it a lot. But can't help but feel it looks like a fat hatchback.. makes the Macan look more crossover-y than it is.

Coincidentally a cheery read Ford Puma slowly drove past me today. My instant thought was Grecale.

From the front they truly look like siblings.

I'm still not 100% with it yet. They finally though have something to truly compete though. It will all come down to how it drives vs the Macan.

I will say it does look properly expensive here.

It isn't ugly per se but it looks too dull and uneventful unfortunately. I'm aware that Maserati doesn't want to be Alfa Romeo or Ferrari styling-wise as it has traditionally gone for a somewhat more serious and self-restrained design language, but lately the pendulum has swung too far towards the germanic end of the spectrum (see Frank Stephenson's comments on the MC20's lower layer), and even more so towards the bland been-there-done-that end, as this exterior without the tridents could easily have come from a number of other manufacturers (Ford front end, Jaguar rear end, generic profile...).

I'd like to see it unsettle the German premium oligopoly, but I'm afraid it lacks the passion-igniting spark that's needed to steer the target clientele away from the more rational and established alternative.

Agreed. The Grecale is 2-3 years too late and with an old fashioned Marketing + distribution model via limping FCA dealers, I don't see Maserati being saved from its mediocracy...

What's most important is that the Grecale will likely double or triple Maserati's production volume. This will be their best selling car.

Like: exterior. Don't love it but it's hard to fault any details.
M'eh: interior. Even for a Maser at this level, I'd want a bit more of a sense of occasion.

At the end of the day, the driving experience will make or break it......said Capt. Obvious.
