Bentley Teases Its 2014 Continental Flying Spur

A revised Flying Spur has been captured in testing by our spy photographers on several occasions, as well as on video.

While a time frame for its arrival is still murky, it looks like the unveiling could happen sooner rather than later.

Bentley has released the first teaser image for the car, which is expected to land in showrooms in time for the 2014 model year.

Unfortunately, the teaser image doesn’t reveal much although we can gather a few important details from it.

Visible changes include a revised greenhouse that features a completely new C-pillar and sits atop a more pronounced beltline, with the look now reflecting that of the larger Mulsanne. In addition, Bentley designers have added a new fender vent which also integrates the indicator lamp with a new side strake.

That’s about all we can gather right now, though Bentley promises to release further information on February 20. This suggests that we could see the 2014 Continental Flying Spur unveiled just two weeks later at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

From the previous spy shots, we know that Bentley is planning to introduce a new V-8 model in addition to the current W-12-powered car. Some of the prototypes were seen sporting the same exhaust tip design as the Continental GT V8 (the tips are shaped like a figure 8).

We’re expecting output of the V-8-powered Continental Flying Spur to equal the 500 horsepower and 487 pound-feet of torque of the Continental GT V8, while W-12 models should get 552 horsepower or more.

For both models, drive will be sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission with column-mounted paddle shifters.

Exterior looks like a pure evolution of a current car, heavily influenced by Mulsanne design elements ... and ... do I see it right???? ... the EXP-9F-inspired tail lights????? :wideyed:

Interior also seems evolutionary (driver-oriented etc) ...

Let's see the whole thing already. :D

I have seen the car testing , generally in shape it is a mini-Mulsanne but with Continental GT detailing.
It certainly is an exciting time for the ultra-high end manufacturers , I wonder when this debuts @ Genf will we finally see the Mulsanne based Azure which they have been showing to customers the world over?

Oh shite, it looks like it wil be much better than before. I so want to like Bentleys again, well one other than the Mulsanne.

M

The new exterior is much better than the current one,but it's still based on the aged old VW Phaeton.

It doesn't look like a 4 door version of the Continental. That is nice IMO. Notice it is no more called "Continental Flying Spur" but just "Flying Spur". I think this might be the best luxury sedan. But if it is based on A8, why is it so much more heavy?

The 2014 Flying Spur appears to be a stopgap measure by Bentley. As far as I am aware, it will continue to be based on a slightly modified version of the current VW Phaetons' platform. As of 2016/17, we shall see the next gen Contis' based on the VW Groups' upcoming MSB (RWD/4WD) underpinnings. Under the bodywork, these cars will be closely related to the second gen Porsche Panamera.

MSB platform might make me like the VAG cars. I hope the FWD proportions will be gone, and I guess handling will be improved.

It is my guess that Porsche and Bentley will be the main beneficiaries with regard to the upcoming MSB. It is questionable whether Audi will base the D5 A8/A9 on the MSB. The MLB Evo is primarily an Audi development and will be an extremely flexible platform. In addition, it appears that Audi may be placing more emphasis on the SUV sector in the future. Time will tell...Rumours indicate that the VW Phaetons' successor will also be based on the MLB Evo...

Oh, so it will have a successor? good, what bothered me was that absolute excellent manufacturing facility - saved!

Those who really like to go home after work say...I....and there was silence.
