X6 Spy pics: BMW X6 SAC (part 2).

The BMW X6 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV by German automaker BMW. The BMW X6 is the originator of the sports activity coupé (SAC), referencing its sloping rear roof design. It combines the attributes of an SUV (high ground clearance, all-wheel drive and all-weather ability, large wheels and tires) with the stance of a coupé (styling featuring a sloping roof).
Re: Spy pics: BMW X6 SAC - part 2 (barely disguised FEP prototypes)

very impressive , im loving it.

Re: Spy pics: BMW X6 SAC - part 2 (barely disguised FEP prototypes)

Is the body of the X6 both wider, taller andlonger than the X5's body or is it just longer and wider? I don't know if it is because of masking tape but it looks a bit too tall.

Here are the measurements : (Quote from Autobild /Eni)
LxWxH = 4875mm x 1990mm x 1676mm (X5: 4854 x 1933 x 1766)

Length and width are almost identical, small differences are probably caused by slightly different bumper...the width difference is probably caused 100% by slightly expanded wheel arches...
The height is 10 cm lower...5cm are caused by lowering the seating position (lowering the suspension) and the other 5 cm by lowering the roofline.

Judging by the 'extensive modifications' to the front facia, I would bet that the interior is also almost unchanged...

I tried to photoshop the front zooming in to microscopic level to find a difference to the X5 front....I am really surprised to see that they did not even change the head lights substancially... Maybe under the tape is some little design feature hidden , maybe a little eyebrow thing...As you see, I am desperate trying to find even a little modification of the front......
OK they changed the front bumper....this is how the X5 M-Sportpackage should have looked like

Don't get me wrong...I love the X5, imo its the best designed SUV, interior and exterior- wise out there.....and I am sure the X6 will be a very nice car...but in relation to the expectatons created, its a serious disappointment... :t-banghea

But maybe this is the ultimate camoflage... putting the original X5 bootlid and original X5 headlights on it just to confuse us......;-):eusa_danc
If I think about it, thats the only solution that makes sense....and in September they will surprise us with the real beast :usa7uh:

don't put your hopes up mate, the past has shown that the nearly unmasked prototypes are what we get
the other thing that has proven to be true, is that the 100% tabe free cars look 100% better

What is going on in BMW?
I am disappointed with the X6, and the reviews from the M3 have not being stellar.

I was just kidding and venting my frustration....I am sure it will still be a stunning car in the right color and with 20+ inch wheels.
The one in the photos seems to have a quite high ride (does not seem to be lowered in comparison to X5.)
Lowering it would contribute to a little more agressive stance

:t-cheers:

Those are very tiny differences and I hope that BMW have design related trixs making the car look wide and sporty IRL.

It is wearing very little camo now. does it mean that it will be launched before new year?

don't put to much into reviews, in the last couple of years reviewers got very wierd - sometimes it seems as if they don't see the forest because of that many trees :eusa_thin

1. Yes, the stance is very sporty & aggressive, despite being only an "X5 coupe".

2. Yes, press release is expected after IAA, sometimes in October (perhaps early November). 1er cabrio, M3 cabrio & MINI Clubman press releases also coming in the next months. Plus the special IAA press release. X6 is expected to hit showrooms in late February / early March 2008.

When is the X6 going to hit dealerships?
Will we get both the N54 and N64 engines with the release?
Is BMW going to announce the release with the 2008 X5?

Re: Spy pics: BMW X6 SAC - part 2 (barely disguised FEP prototypes)

First Infiniti EX then Audi Cross Coupe and now BMW X6. Sport Activity Coupes are style over function with the lowered roofs.:D

Its weird how BMW fans are dissappointed while anti-BMWers are liking it.

1. Early 2008 (I've heard: from February on - depends on market; possible my source was talking about showroom examples - in this case the car will be available approx a month later: so, April / May).

2. Yes. I6 3.0L diesel engines will also be available from launch (at least in Europe).

3. No. It will be a special X6 press release.

Not that I'm disappointed.

I love the idea & general shape of the car very much. Also the execution is excellent - with nice details. But the hype about revolutionary & "next generation" styling made me believe the car will be less X5-ish. I really believed BMW would start the new design revolution with X6 (since it is a completely new vehicle /series), but I guess F01 7er will again be the revolution leader.

Same case with eg. 1er coupe vs 1er hatch: the expectations about special fascia coupe were just too high.

Re: Spy pics: BMW X6 SAC - part 2 (barely disguised FEP prototypes)

Eni: yes its true. But to be honest, our insiders (you & scott) raised our expectations soo high that when I first saw these pics I had a shock for instant. Well to be honest, I wasn't expecting such a difference compared to the X5 and I still love the car. But i expected more. Anyhow, the car is still great and believe me. Am obssesed with even the spy shots of this car. I keep starring at them for a looong loong time ... waiting for the final product though. And believe me, am having a hard time to choose between this and the upcoming F01/02. I think both will be great and I can't decide which one is worth the waiting more. My current 7er is like the car I purchased bcoz I needed a nice ride till my dreams car arrive. Now I limited my choices to 3 cars,
1] the upcoming X6
2] F01/02 7er
3] Maserati QP if the above failed to impress me which I highly doubt it. Btw I was about to pull the trigger for the QP in the last couple of weeks BUT, the cars reputation really really is getting worse every time I set with an owner. Most of my friends who had it, sold it. Not bcoz it isn't a nice car to drive, own BUT it really lacks the kind of durability in our tough weather. Simple things go wrong and the car is gone for weeks for inspection at the dealer. On the other hand, my 7er is flauless. Yesterday I had an alarm of Oil level at minimum and I went to the dealer for a "top up". otherwise, really really I adoooooooore the car.

What a long post :D, anyway Am gonna say this anyway although OT, I had a quick drag/street race with new Holden/Caprice equiped with the corvette 6.0L engine (370 HP). And imagine who won!!!!! my car weighs more, longer, engine is smaller (4.8) but that Beemer got secrets under the hood. We tried all possible scenarios, from standstill, from 40 , 60 , 100 , 120 !! I was always ahead till 230 Km/h !!!!!!!!!! LOL I know this sounds childish But i almost kissed my car on the hood lol

Re: Spy pics: BMW X6 SAC - part 2 (barely disguised FEP prototypes)

I'm dissapointed, It is interesting, looks like a huge sedan to me.It is a cool concept though. I was expecting something radical from the guys that supported bangles radical ideas. A new interpretation of the current flame surfacing styling before the new 7 comes.

oh well...

Uhm, BMW will be much sooner than Audi to hit the market with such a car, and that's what counts.

You consider 10 cm lower a tiny difference? That little fact alone will make the X6 appear much wider than the X5. 10 cm is a lot.

Re: Spy pics: BMW X6 SAC - part 2 (barely disguised FEP prototypes)

This car looks just great, more sporty then my X5, I would have hard time to chose between X5 and X6. :usa7uh::bowdown:

Re: Spy pics: BMW X6 SAC - part 2 (barely disguised FEP prototypes)

I hope the bumpers are body colored and not black plastic.

They are, but there are still some black body parts there on the car (eg. side sills, wheel arches, lower / central parts of bumper etc)!

I 'm certainly not a member of any anti-BMW group if you are refering to me.:D

I 'm just glad that the dreadful new grille wasn't used in the X6.:D

5cm for the actual body and 5 for the suspension. If the X5 had(or does it have) air suspension like the Range Rover or Cayenne one could simply lower it 5cm using a button in the cockpit.
