X6 Spy pics: BMW X6 SAC (part 2).

The BMW X6 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV by German automaker BMW. The BMW X6 is the originator of the sports activity coupé (SAC), referencing its sloping rear roof design. It combines the attributes of an SUV (high ground clearance, all-wheel drive and all-weather ability, large wheels and tires) with the stance of a coupé (styling featuring a sloping roof).
It's not identical to the X5, the spyshots show that clearly, but it's the info we got that made me excpect somthing else, not necessarily better, but different :D
But again, the X5 is a hot car, and the X6 is the hotter version!

Frankfurt Preview: BMW X6 spied before debut

bd05f8118bd93b7086c565dd15e0b080.webpNow that it's been confirmed the BMW X6 will make it's world debut in Frankfurt next week, those tasked with keeping the prototypes under cover have been given the green light to show a little more skin... err, metal. These newest shots don't leave much to the imagination, giving us a very clear view of both the front and rear of BMW's SAV.

The front clip has a decidedly sportier appearance than its big brother the X5, with larger air dams, kidney grilles and fog lamp recesses. The sloping roofline out back is as extreme as we expected, and the small spoiler integrates smoothly into the hatch.

Frankfurt is less than a week away, so, as always, watch this space.

Not sure if posted yet...

As CB said: the car presented at IAA would be a Concept car. You can see the car in the video is different than the car in spy pics. Much more concept-ish.

HUGE individual-design wheels, specially designed side mirrors, looks like no B-pillar(??), Individual interior, etc.
An almost production version car. Something like M3 / M5 Concept, Z4 Coupe Concept.

Yet the BMW VIP guests will be able to see the real car though.

Are we talking about pics of the X6 concept car here or could this be the teaser with production model pics? Reminds me of Audi's TT launch some months back. Looks like frameless windows and a b-pillar less window layout to me, like the old Mercedes Coupes used to have, that would make a huge difference over the X5 :eusa_thin

I don;t know what I think of this tank yet.... I need to wait until I see it totally undisguised. I'm not that impressed so far. Looks a bit strange to me.

The only dissapointment I had was that I was expecting the car to be more individual in looks from the X5 - as Scott reported (maybe now you understand why I was so pissed in the other thread:D).
But still this doesn't change the fact that it's a hot car and I'm really hoping thát will be opening a new segment in the industry. Excited what the other would do to respond.

BMW blew it by debuting X5 first. They should have showed X6 Concept before debuting E70 X5! In that case perception would be X5 was inspired by X6, and not vice versa. A missed opportunity! :t-banghea

X6 is an astonishing vehicle. :icondrool
And I'm 200% sure it was designed / sketched before X5 was, and then X5 was then based on X6. C'mon - the same guy designed both cars.

Scott? The ultimate hype-maker. :D

Not sure about this point. Are you just saying it or do you know it, Tine?
Both cars being designed by the same guy doesn't mean anything in that concern actually.
But if that's the case then I ,too, don't really understand why they released the X5 before the X6!:t-hands:

Just speculating. :)

BUT ... the SUV coupe idea emerged way before X5 final design was presumably picked (if we assume the design is picked 3 years before production begins).

So, IMO, it's very possible X5 carries X6 cues, and not the opposite. :usa7uh:

I could be wrong though.

BMW are exposure-junkies.

Let's look into X6 history.

  • First there was an idea (sometimes in the late 20st century ;)). In some interviews there was indicated BMW are up into something.
  • In January 2001 X-coupe Concept was shown - a clear indication BMW were serious about making an off-road AWD coupe. Interviews also confirmed that.
  • Then we had few years (2001 - 2005) full of rumors what's the real agenda of X-Coupe.
  • In March 2005 CEO Panke confirmed sport activity coupe is coming in 2008.
  • Then we get first artist impressions just after that.
  • First X6 mules were out in late Summer 2006.
  • Heavy camoed prototypes with original body was presented in November 2006.
  • In mid July 2007 X6 in light camo (FEP phases) appeared.
  • And now in mid September 2007 we're getting the X6 "Concept", accompanied by a press release & promo material.
Then - very soon - production version press release will follow, the car will be shown on a forthcoming Autoshow, press will get a chance to test drive it. And then finally the car will hit the showrooms.

In the meanwhile the press, news sites, blogs & forums will be full of comments about X6 shape & purpose: exposing the car to a broader public.
8 years of exposure for BMW Sport Activity Coupe. Not bad. :D

Exposure, exposure, exposure ...

Debate = maximum publicity.

Teasing = pleasing. The climax is the end of the game.

Same, I have no idea why BMW bothers with the concept tag. I think EnI explained it before when the M3 concept was launched.

Ok I am a bit late to post this. EnI has explained it just than thanks mate.

haha its good to build up such anticipation if you can deliver a end product thats up to the hype...
and often bmw cant.. maybe its not the car thats bad..
maybe the problem with bmw is to much hype for their own good...
ever thought in those patterns?:t-hands:

^^ That's the same video that was posted by Ralfd on page 33. Well, it's embedded this time so maybe it's justified to post it again. ;)
