Sport Auto - Nordschleife laptimes

Re: Officiell SportAuto Nordschleife laptimes

Ok this isnt an officiall time from Sportauto, this is BMW officiell time regarding M3 E46:

"All of these power, technology and lightweight innovations combine in the new BMW M3 Coupé to offer a car that is significantly faster around the infamous northern loop of the Nordschliefe. The outgoing M3 was capable of an 8mins 15secs lap but an official lap time for the V8-engined M3 Coupé has yet to be announced."

so lets say BMW cut 10 seconds with M3 V8 which mean 8.05 min, I think Sportauto will take the new M3 in 8.10 min.

Re: Officiell SportAuto Nordschleife laptimes

You think it will be slower than the RS4? I doubt it. I would guess 8:09 or under but maybe thats optimistic.

the new M3 isnt using semi-R-tires or ceramic brakes like the RS4 is using thats why I think M3 wont beat the RS4.

Re: Officiell SportAuto Nordschleife laptimes

Mark my words it's gonna be fast... Very fast!;)

:t-cheers:

Re: Officiell SportAuto Nordschleife laptimes

If the M3 doesn't beat the RS4 it will be a failure.

eh what? a M3 without R-tires and cermaic brakes cant create miracles. Highspeed tracks suit the RS4 well, smaller tricky tracks (hockenheim), there cars with less weight will shine meaing M3 V8.
Some of you really need a reality check ;)

We could also say the new M3 has a lot of advantages as well, such as less weight, better distribution, lower CG, faster gearbox, RWD, newer chassis, etc... What's the old M3 time 8.25ish? I would expect it to do at least around 10-15 seconds better, would that not better the RS4? The ceramic brakes argument is ridiculous it only stops the brakes from fading quicker, and if the new M3 had a brake fading problem around the N-ring then what was the point of doing all that testing there I wonder?

Nope!! The Ceramics are much more important then that. They weigh less but most importantly they are better allowing you to break later in the bends.

My prediction is that the M3 will either be 1 second faster or slower then the M6.

sure the M3 has advantages but most important, no R-tires, a R-tires can easily cut 5-10 seconds around N-ring. And ceramic brakes are important, no fading, brake later, shorter brake distance.
and everyone is so freaking obsessed with N-ring, its not the only track thats counts and not the one and only track for comparing laptimes, Sportauto use two tracks, N-ring and hockenheim for obvious reasons.

sportauto time for M# E46 is 8.22 min.

Re: Officiell SportAuto Nordschleife laptimes

Just like Andreas said, with and without the R-tyres it's just like night and day.

Re: Officiell SportAuto Nordschleife laptimes

The advantage is with the RS4: Co just 0,31, ceramic brakes, P Zero Corsa tyres and a limited topspeed of 262 km/h (not 250...). I'm quite sure that the new M3 will get Pilot Sport 2 or ContiSportContact3 tyres. That with the manual gearbox and rear wheel drive will give a time of ~8.12-8.13 min IMO. If they put Corsas or Pilot Sport Cups on it the time will be around 8.03-8.05 min. And if the topspeed won't be limited at 250 km/h the time will be around 8.00 sec.

So my forecast:
PS2/CSC3 tyres, 250 km/h: 8.12-8.13 min
PZC/PSC tyres, 250 km/h: 8.03-8.05 min
PZC/PSC tyres, 250+ km/h: 8.00 min

Re: Officiell SportAuto Nordschleife laptimes

to be fair with the RS4, the car is using Semi-R-tires which mean the tires work better on wet surfaces than 100% R-tires does.

Dede, if you look at the pressphotos you see that the M3 is using Michelin Pilot Sport tires.

I will second that. When BMW releases the CSL, with the track biased r-tires found on the RS4 then we will know what manufacturer makes the best ringrunner in the middleclass. For reference, the E46 M3 is on par with the B7 RS4 when both run regular street tires according to one of the few tests seen when Audi supplied a non r-tire RS4.
