Side by side: W212 E63 AMG vs F10 M5

However, I don't see what everyone's gushing about regarding those M5 pics. Other than the color, the car looks like it could pass as a 90's Sedan with a big fatty and non-defined front end (save for the M5 bumper contrasting it). That's a good thing to an extent (BMW's best designs were from the 90's, and it shows how traditional the cars styling is), but it lacks that "it" factor that would persuade me to want to pay those bucks for it, like it lacks too much soul and/or character to justify that tag. The E63 would have its work cut out for it, if I were selecting a car in this segment. However, in this case, much of that would be due to me literally pitting it against a badge more-so than a design, as "M5" actually turns me on more than the F10's very nice but not persuasive design.

You, who dislike so much the lines on the profile of the upcomming benzes, should appreciate the clean design of the F10, is simply gorgeous. And I think no other BMW on sale the same aura the 5er and specially the M5 has. Nor the 7er, nor the Z4, nor the SUVs, and the upcoming 3er doesn´t seem to have it neither.

I do really appreciate the cars clean lines and classic styling. However, what upset me about the car (which I was hoping to blow my socks off when the camo cars were rolling around) is how bloated it remained, and how lousy and lazy the snout is. After considering going to a BMW Dealer to talk F10 numbers when I was in the same process at a Benz dealer (traded in my 2010 for a 2011 W212), I found myself having no desire to spend money on an F10, as it doesn't give me that appeal. To me, it's not as stately nor dynamic as the W212, which keeps it very obvious as a "family Sedan", while the W212 can be that as well, but has an appeal that goes beyond that as well.

IMO, the 5'er looks so close to the 7 and upcoming 3, that I don't think it has an individual aura from them. I do think that its lines are nicer, more crisp, and precise than the F01, but IMO the F01 is the one with some character out of the two, if for its sheer size only.

If the F10 leaned out the sheetmetal, gave the greenhouse and profile a slightly more wedge shape, and made the front end more dynamic, I'd be 100% on board. I guess those are the very reasons that I prefer the W212 to it, lol.

I do sometimes still have wet dreams of a white F10 535i with M-pack and some very slight clean up mods. If I ended up with one, I'm sure I'd find reasons to prefer it over the W212. I guess what the 212 gives me is a passion from being a hater to a lover of it. With the F10, I look at it and think "Very Nice", and it ends there.

Is this getting too intense? I'm sorry that I'm disagreeing with high-clout members here, but is there any reason at all to hate either of these cars?
Both are fantastic, this is undeniable. However, they do what they do in different ways, and this is a matter of preference.

My personal opinion is that the E63 does fast in a slightly better way. These pictures might explain it:

The E63 can remain a civilized limo when it's not on the track. It can be the kind of car that will run around the city chauffeuring high-class people around, and it can be the kind of car that you can "show off." Any person who knows a bit about cars will be intimidated by the aggressive bumpers, wheels, and exhaust sound, yet will also appreciate the classiness of the car.

The M5, in my opinion again, only looks right on the track. It can not look like a civilized car when it wants to. Many people would rather have this, and I understand them well. Its looks are too powerful, too angry, and too overpowering to suit the use described for the E above. It will be most commonly seen in blue, and not businessman-like black and silver.

If you will, The E63 is like an Aston Martin and the M5 is like a Ferrari.


And don't forget: there is an Estate E63.

Because of the sales failure that is the 5-series GT, the chances of an M5 Wagon in the near future are very distant.

Shouting and hating doesn`t stand out. Intelligence does!

The W212 E-Class has some of the finest materials in it`s class. The design fits the angular theme of the new E very well and is unique to the E-Class.
Some of you critize these cars for being different which is very lame!
Both 5er and E-Class offer very good quality interiors. We may prefer one over the other but the quality is there for you in both cars without question.

Anyway, I can`t wait to see some tests for this M5. I aleady predicted a 0-60 time of 3.7 to 3.8 seconds. 1/4 mile times should be in the 11s.
It will be hair faster than the Cadillac
CTS-V (until the next CTS-V comes along) slower than the Panamera Turbo.
