E63 AMG or M5? Looks only!!!

I have to agree with klier. E-Class is one of those ill-shaped MB recent interiors, and, while looking much much better than the pre-LCI W204 interior (what wouldn´t) and GLK one, it´s far worse designed than most of the recent MB products, such as the LCI W04, the ML, and eons away of the new CLS.

Regarding the seats, I have to say I´m with Sunny. AMG has some fantastic seats for the C63 and the SLS, don´t know why they don´t use them for the E63 and CLS63:

PS: I think AMG should redesign the front treatment of the E63 and give it a more rounded look, as the CL63 and CLS63, which have the nicest AMG front ends currently.

WOW. I couldn't disagree further with your assessment of the E-Class! Lol.

I think I'm one of the very few people that's driven an E63 around a circuit here... I can't criticise the seats for what they are (supportive, moderately more sporting items as appropriate in a luxury car) nor can I say that the interior is anywhere near as horrid as some people are claiming here. In fact, quite the opposite: it's pure MB solidity and back-to-business quality. Sheesh, internal combustion... :D

Very much agreed about the W212's interior. I have fallen in love with it. It is the most honest interpretation of a classic M-B interior to date. Totally no nonsense, bomb-proof yet "Ultra Loungey", upright, rigid, and classic with a modern/future twist. The plastics are very high quality in the tactile and durability sense, yet maybe a bit less soft, warm and plush to the touch than some like (like just classic M-B's), which is done for the sake of solidity, fit and finish is outstanding, and the ambiance is perfect for a luxury car, which is what M-B is supposed to do better than anyone. I think the F10 has more soft touch and pretty surfaces, but driving both, it becomes apparent to me that M-B once again nails the "place that you want to live in and feel comfortable and secure driving for long hours" aspect best.

F10 Interior feels sportier, more tight and more focused around the driver which I like and prefer over Benz. It feels good to sit there. :)
Now, I would like to see more interior color combinations for the M5. Black Piano wood would be nice.

F10's interior feels more like it sucks you in and "surrounds you". W212's is less overwhelming than that, and kind of has a more minimalist, and "Loungey" approach. I think both are perfectly appropriate for their brands, especially in the historic sense, although the F10's interior is far cozier and more coddling than BMW's or yore.

It has that BMW inclined dash towards driver thingy.. its a nice touch:)

Now those are proper sports seat, but forget SLS, even E coupe/cab has better seats and they are not even AMG or anything.

I was just looking at these E63 seats again and how freaking horrible they are.

Just look at the headrests, it is not even well formed - all kinds of undulations and stuff jutting out. And that piece of black plastic at the bottom looks like they just sawed it off on one end. The rest of the E class interior I think is decent - somewhere in between E60 and F10 which is understandable considering that is when the car appeared. But those seats are truly horrible looking. I understand comfort is probably what they were going for, but that is no reason to look so bad. I bet they wouldn't put that shit in the S class. And hell no, no, here is S63 seats.

So C63 has proper sports seats, S63 has those awesome seats and E63 is like that bastard middle child no one cares about and the real irony is that E63 is the best handling sedan in the AMG stable.

Hey, you are making a point, but does it have to be that extreme?
The E63's seats match the character of the car's interior design, the C63 and S63 seats would not look right in an E-Class.
Tall and upright, boxy but flowing, this is what the E-Class design is like, and the seats show that. :)

You see, these are better pictures, and they really show how when you look at the whole interior, the seats of the E63 are not bad at all, they fit the character of the design:

Both the C63 and S63 also have seats that fit the character of the interior design. The C-Class has a very utilitarian, basic, classic sports-car interior. The seats reflect this, with integrated headrests, etc.
The S-Class, well, it's an S-Class. It's built for royalty, celebrities, and in general people who want an ultra-luxurious, heavyweight, vault-like car with still lots of capabilities in the acceleration and speed department.

This is the only proper picture that shows how well the support of the seats are. The pics Sunny used were all from poor angles that did little to show what the seats looked like from the side. On the first picture he posted, the seats are even slight reclined.

Are they really that far off?

This one is pretty bad though ;

^Yes, the back rests do seem to be bolstered enough, but the seat bottom is not and in my own experience it is the seat bottom that is more important in keeping you in place (which is also why US spec new M3 seats sorta suck - they have euro back rests, but seat bottoms from normal 335). On the other hand aggressively bolstered seat bottoms probably make it uncomfortable for people with big behinds which might be why you don't see it in the E. Anyway, enough from me on the seats, I am not buying an E and I guess it is not important for people who do.

I don't see the problem with the E AMG's seats. I think they look great and are a perfect mix of Sport and Luxury, without being too ostentatious. The horizontal and "solid yet luxurious" pleat design speaks very well for, and coincides with the car as a whole.

First of all i posted a 7er interior above..and no one noticed its not a 5er..haha tells you something

Traitor. You and Marcus are really putting your MB fan club membership in jeapordy. :eusa_doh: :D

Typical, cluless haterrade.

M

Sure Merc, you keep on thinking that. Whatever you want. When it's not to your liking, it's hate? Give me a break please and grow up and accept different opinions. I hate Audi, not Mercedes, but Audi has overall better looking interiors then MB.

C class FL: pretty nice looking but cheap
E class: weird design solutions for interior, like it's not finished.
S class: a copy of a 10 year old Bimmer. No thanks.

Anything I missed? No? Well, then the CLS is the only truly beautiful Mercedes sedan interior. PERIOD.

Artist, get real please. Every BMW fan plus his grandma can see that.
There is a difference between not knowing and not replying....

Oh, and that 7er interior pic is just off the freaking charts nice. Best BMW interior ever made in my humble opinion.

^hhahaha.. yes ofcourse..you didnt reply haha

PS
Mr Mercedes..there is always the CLS63:) dont through me out..

I agree this is what matters. The lateral support of the E63 seats is fine IMO, but the seat bottom is totally off. Specially when, as you pointed out, other AMG sedans have perfectly shaped seats. I think it´s one of those stupid thing a proper LCI will correct. I think the seat like the ones on the M5 and S63 are the perfect balnce between conform and sportiness. The bucket ones are far from my taste.

I too love the cachet, history, and name of "M5" over "E63", and some of that has to do with M-B changing the name of their AMG too much, and now that it's an actual 5.5 again, they keep the 63 badge. Stupid, and just isn't as well marketed and presented as the historic "M5".

However, I don't see what everyone's gushing about regarding those M5 pics. Other than the color, the car looks like it could pass as a 90's Sedan with a big fatty and non-defined front end (save for the M5 bumper contrasting it). That's a good thing to an extent (BMW's best designs were from the 90's, and it shows how traditional the cars styling is), but it lacks that "it" factor that would persuade me to want to pay those bucks for it, like it lacks too much soul and/or character to justify that tag. The E63 would have its work cut out for it, if I were selecting a car in this segment. However, in this case, much of that would be due to me literally pitting it against a badge more-so than a design, as "M5" actually turns me on more than the F10's very nice but not persuasive design.
