Given all the hype around the release of two of the most prominent luxury cars this year, and all the debate around which is the more successful iteration of its kind...
Here's a thread for you to air your views and state your case. It's Internal Combustion time and the forum, so to speak, is yours but always remember this: it's 2020 - don't be a d!ck.

So here it is: Rolls Royce Ghost II vs Mercedes Benz S-Class W223. Which one's better in your eyes?

So, what'll it be?

or: how we insecure MB fans desperately try to ruin this thread.
So when someone posts something else than "wow lovely" on BMW/RR topic it is a piece of trash that ruins topics.

But when someone says something that dislikes some MB model , it's is absolutely right.

Wonderful

LOL. I can't wait to see it in person.

Thread ban all MB fanboys please!

With the S class on the other hand, I cannot wait to not see it.

Anyways, this thread ban thingy doesn't seem to be working, people keep hitting the same dead horse with different words.

Thanks for this detailed analysis!

LMAO, yes, those three lines he drew are truly brilliant, and show me some awe inspiring design wisdom!

There are the same people that think the new S-class, which has a design that has been widely criticized and rejected by the public, is an improvement on the W222, can’t really take them seriously:dazed053:

If the new Ghost looks pregnant, surely the new S-class looks like it has been aborted. Still, they’re entitled to their opinion, no issue here.

It’s quite a weird logic that you got there:
So people who say the S class is nice - they have a subjective opinion and the car is objectively crap
But people who say the Ghost is nice are objectively right, and every bad opinion about the car is just subjective.

mhmm... clever

Martin, could you add the new Flying Spur as well?
It fits right in.
It does fit in from a direct comparison perspective against the Ghost but let's keep this specifically between these two (given that they were launched in 2020 and so close to each other) which aren't quite as direct rivals yet are both high-end luxury machines.

The important thing here is not about whether these two cars are direct competitors but rather to debate which resonates more with you from a personal choice perspective. Let's be realistic: it's not like many people here are in the market for either.

I would buy the S-Class and put the remaining £158,295 towards various sports cars or maybe another house.

Yeah, but that's not the exactly point of this discussion. I could say much the same thing like I'd buy a Land Cruiser VX and spend the rest of the money on Porsches.
It's about which car do you connect with more - what does and doesn't appeal in both?

What are you more a fan of as opposed to wanting to spend money on?
Which rings your bell, floats your boat, butters your mielie* more?

* A mielie is South African for corn cob.

I see. In which case it's still the S-Class. As much as I concede the RR is the better car, makes the biggest statement, is classier, and is superior to the S-Class in other ways, it's the S-Class thread which I click on every time I visit GCF. It's the S-Class I was eagerly awaiting to be launched. I've no idea why. I just don't "get" RR, even though as a car fan I should.

The only car I just don't "get" more than a RR is...the MB G-Wagon. I just don't see the appeal. But I guess that's something for another thread.

Your perception of Rolls Royce precisely echoes my own. I have massive respect for the brand per se and the values that it embraces, but the cars just "don't push any buttons whatsoever". Never have for me, really.
