Where is Middle East in these figures?
I am guessing it is included in the Asia-Pacific figure..

Would imagine the Gulf region to buy lots of Mercedes’s with their oil money
What's your definition of "lots"?

Google only turned up this - which has Mercedes figures in Middle East from 2006, and says -
This is part of 8,750 units sold in the Middle East and Levant area, which is 20 per cent higher than the 6,846 units sold in the first half of 2005.

So doubling it + padding gives ~ 20k for whole year in 2006. In 2006, Mercedes sold more than 12x that in the US. Assuming the ratio holds today, the ME market in 2020 would have been - ~27k. So unless ~30k in annual sales is your definition of "lot", it is not a whole lot.

Maybe by numbers not but by value and profit margin for sure it is. I'd guess the profit from one ME car would equal the profit from 15 barestock A classes from Europe.

It is correct that the vast majority of sales are generated in developed nations.

Although these countries have major metropolitan and urban cities, some of the outskirts and rural areas are agricultural or behind the times.

I am not going to bother to dig up numbers like before but I highly doubt rural markets make up the bulk of Mercedes sales in developed countries... so letting that dictate your product strategy makes no sense either.

Mercedes will no doubt shift its resources to EVs but not a 100% by 2030 like Volvo and possibly Audi. I expect Mercedes to still have a few selection of hybrids in 2028-2030.

Mercedes can do whatever it wants, doesn't meant it is the right or smart thing to do. The trap with every disruption is thinking there will be a smooth off ramp and on ramp from the old to new. But there never is. If there was, it would be called a "transition" and not a "disruption". And many of the dead companies that failed to make the jump would still be around.

Disruption is 100% the correct mindset. Dither on the fence as a manufacturer and you will be end up becoming the blackberry of the automotive industry.

But how does that matter? The vast bulk of Mercedes sales is in developed countries.

Exactly. It doesn't matter one bit if Africa or wherever else has no way to drive BEV. It's all about the US, EU and China. The rest is just extra. And insignificant.

Half the under developed world is still rocking Sacco era Merc's... gonna be a while before they have to worry about the W214...

Ha-an E30 3er. Imagine that... The B3 Audi 80 isn't really a surprise, other than Audis' negligable "brand equity" in the developing world when compared to that of M-B. Those cars are about as bullet-proof as they come.

Those old W201 and W124s are hilarious. Simple sturdy cars that last forever in a non wintry climate. What does a Benz with 350,000 miles on it drive like lol.

Like a Benz, if properly maintained.
Seeing them still in active duty is something no modern car will ever pull off again, they will have fallen apart a long time already by that time.

agree todays cars in general can not stand the time of those cars of the 60’s to late 90’s

The general body shape really does not look that much different than the W213.
The greenhouse appears slightly shorter, the C-pillar and rear deck more raked.
We might have a larger grill this time.

Yes agreed I think it’s going to be a evolution and will probably have slimmer head lights similar to the the S ..

This will be more a evolution with probably same interior as the Standard EQE

Promises to be "conservatively handsome".

Surprised to see it actually. Stuttgart-Untertürkheim is delivering some rather confusing mixed signals. Will this steal the EQEs' fire ? Or will the EQE render this utterly superfluous from the very beginning ? I can't imagine a truly sustainable (meaning more than 4-5 years) co-existence. "F***ing 'ell ! What's going on ?"
