According to Car Sales Data website the total numbers of W212 E-class models sold in Europe, US and China from 2009 to 2016 is 1,626,172. If adding W212 E-class models sold in Africa, Asia Pacific, Eurasia, South America, India and Middle East to this total then it most likely could top 2mill cars.

Searching for light on the subject, I found this W212 vs F10 comparative work quite clear.
it is remembered that the W212 lost to the F10, at that time and had a deep LCI because their sales were not as they wanted, although obviously they were never bad, I do not know about its predecessor, the W211.

I search google and send me to the comments around here in 2016....

Worldwide sales (source: BMW AG Annual Reports):

F10 5er sedan + F11 touring:

2010: 179,680 + 17,288 = 196,968
2011: 248,835 + 61,215 = 310,050
2012: 280,504 + 57,425 = 337,929
2013: 295,877 + 50,820 = 346,697
2014: ....................... = 373,053 (incl. 5er GT sales)
2015* : ...... = 258,842 till 30th September 2015 (incl. 5er GT sales)
--------------------------------------------------------------
Total: ..................... = 1,823,539

OK, take out approx 22k of GTs in 2013, and 15k till 30zh Sept 2015 ... and you get approx 1,786,500 F10 5er Sedans & F11 5er Tourings sold from the introduction of F10 in January 2010 and of F11 in September 2010. And F10 / F11 still have almost a full year of sales in their respected life cycles. So, in total more than 2.1 million 5er sedans & tourings will be sold during the whole life cycle!

Entire MB E-class segment
(sedan + wagon + coupe + cabrio + CLS)
(Source: Daimler AG Annual Reports):

2009: 212,100
2010: 330,800
2011: 340,100
2012: 313,600
2013: 332,000
2014: 329,000
2015*: 233,000 (till 30th September 2015)
-----------------------------------------------
Total: 2,090,600

So, 2,090,600 (entire E-class segment) vs 1,786,500 (5er sedan & touring only) ... the difference of 304,100 cars ... with F10 / F11 still having almost a full year of sales ahead ... and the MB figure also includes the sales of E coupe, E cabrio AND CLS - and the year 2009 also includes some W211 sales as well!!!

Those figures are official & they DO NOT LIE.

F10/F11 has been much more commercially successful than W212 sedan & wagon. IT'S A FACT.

Hmmm... just looking at the peak for the 5-Series share of BMW sales in 1990...

... certainly a simpler model range back in those days!

The era of the E34. And the first 5er Touring. A complete transformation for BMW.

W212 global sales (incl. coupe, cabriolet and CLS)

2009 212K (w211 52K)
2010 331K
2011 340K (CLS 35K)
2012 314K
2013 332K
2014 329K
2015 306K
2016 304K (w213 188K)

Total 2,193K

I would be interested to see the comparison of sales between the G30 and W213, it probably will be pretty close as both cars were selling in excess of 300K cars per month for many years.

Per year you mean.
But guys, take this to the sales thread please.

I had to sit down when I started reading this sentence. I thought I was going to read dalab criticise a BMW. I mean, "one of the most boring BMWs in history". Surely it had to happen, finally. And then...

the G30 is very boring, the pre-lci is one of the most boring BMWs in history..............

Some forces stopped buying specific BMW specialist vehicles after a catastrophic engine failure caused a fatality at high speed on a motorway.

I've not head anything about this incident. Do you have any background info?

It was a moderate change/update of its predecessor, very much in line with what was the pass from E12 to E28, rectangulating the rounding of the first, but in the 80' in such a successful way that it improved it by 1000%, in the case of the transition from F10 to the G30 was sought and did something similar with the rounded lines of the first but without being able to overcome it, in my eyes it only updated it and killing part of its charm, although buyers did not think the same and it continues to sell like hot cakes
