No wonder BEVs are heavy. In additional to a battery pack, there’s a boat load more components added to the car, including larger brakes.
I think the i7 also contains larger brakes compared to the combustion and hybrid powered 7er.

Interesting how the i5 schematic shows rear air suspension vs conventional suspension for the ICE variant.
Maybe the air suspension is standard for every i5 model, and optional for the rest of conventional 5 Series. In addition, I wonder if the Adaptive M Suspension will be available on the G60 (at least for one more generation).

i5 according to the press will be launched on 24 May.

Competitors in Mercedes range:

i5 e-Drive 40 vs EQE 350
Power: 340PS vs 292PS
0-100km/h: Approx 5.9sec vs 6.4sec (based on i4 e-drive 40 claimed 5.7sec)
Range: Approx. 580km vs 607km (BMW range taken from AMS article)
i5 X-drive M60 - EQE AMG 43/53
598PS vs 476PS/625PS.
0-100km/h: Approx 3.9sec vs 4.2sec/3.5sec
Range: Approx. 430km vs 506k/504km (BMW range taken from AMS article)

I almost forgot about how thick the extended Hofmeister Kink on a C-pillar is. Looks like a hybridization between the current 8 Series Gran Coupé blended with a Maserati-esque.

Boh, more weird stuff going on with classic BMW design cues.

I do hope they don’t mess it up. I have yet to see a modern Hoff Kink which looks as good as the classic ones…

I am very interested to know what the final kidney grill will look like on the i5 models. Will these be fully close or have some ribs like on the ICE cars?

Touring models of the 5-Series have had self-levelling rear air suspensions for the last 2-3 generations.

What? A boatload less components you mean, when without an actual engine and it's bazillion breakable parts.

It’s funny how they already try to hide the raised 1’er greenhouse.

I still have hope on the front and rear where it can fight the E-Class.
I believe there is little to be affraid of. Can’t think of any 5er which has not been better than the equivalent E-Class.

Except the last gen. I prefered the prefacelifted E-Class and even the A6 over that lazy thing with it’s overdesigned character line and goofy headlights. The LCI was a try to fix it, but there is too much Skoda in it IMO.

Knowing they don’t follow now any design language, just with the idea of “more is more and less is bore” I’m affraid of the new 5er look. The 1er greenhouse is already a meh.
