Macan [Renders] 2021 Porsche Macan E

The Porsche Macan is a compact luxury crossover SUV (D-segment) produced by Porsche since 2014. It is the smaller SUV from Porsche below the Cayenne. The first-generation Macan went on production from February 2014 with petrol and diesel engine options. In 2024, Porsche released the second-generation Macan which is a battery electric vehicle built on the dedicated Premium Platform Electric (PPE) EV platform.
I can't shake the feeling that Porsche's decision to stick with the split headlights rather than enlarging the top unit saved under-the-skin production dollars between the Macan and Q6 e-tron, and the omission of flush door handles is another sad miss that could have made this car sleeker.

I like it better than I thought I would, but this car is highly color-sensitive and the details still throw me off. I look forward to seeing it in person and hope it comes off better in the flesh, but I'm not teeming with optimism.

That's an excellent observation, thanks. And, you write very nicely too, by the way.

It will definitely take time to get used to such a radical change in the historically anti-radical Porsche, in the end I think it will grow in everyone, it is a very changing and competitive segment in which its captives will look for news sooner or later, it is not the 911 where they are almost " alone"

In my case I liked it after three days of seeing the photos, I began to understand it and IRL I think the appreciation will be even faster

The target audience will be delighted by the design. It's unmistakably Porsche, looks like a Macan and is not obnoxious. I see the Macan everyday. Where I live I see one for every 8 other Porsche. The majority of drivers are ladies above the age of 55.

Well to do baby boomers who will unlikely be troubled by the bubble butt of lack of aggression. All that matters is that it drives well without being uncomfortable, has the badge, easy to get in/out of and isn't too bulky to park.

Sugar mommy's.... :hearts2:

They had a difficult time replacing the prettiest SUV in the busiest segment, but as I said, I think the aggression is still there and I think it will be understood quickly.

Personally I dont have any issues with the split headlights, they are well executed.
Thank god they didn’t use the annoying pop-up door handles. The type they choose are maybe not estetically the nicest, but by far the most functional. You always get a good grip and they are always there when you need them.

I've just seen about 8 Macan EVs in a hotel car park just north of Maastricht in the Netherlands. They appeared to be on some sort of extended test drive of sorts. Maybe a press drive. First time seeing one in the metal, and I have to say the front looks superb, especially the split headlights.

I really want to say it’s the color, but something about the different shapes and composition of this car just aren’t working to these eyes.

Seeing it in the flesh to ascertain for sure can’t happen soon enough.

It's a bummer that the heavy weight on the batteries has required Porsche to increase ride height and stiffen the suspension, at the expense of a fidgety ride at low speeds. The bigger picture is that the car is what the doctor ordered, an EV version of the Macao, nothing more, nothing less.

In the long run it will outsell the Taycan.

Promising reviews and I’m warming to the new design; I think it’s going to look sharper in the flesh.

Comment Of A Negative Grumpy Old Man:
This must be the worst looking Porsche ever. Pure ugliness. An EQE is a beauty compared to this abberation of Porsche design.

I wonder how the comments in this forum were, if this didn't have a Porsche badge...

C'mon, Mick - this one was freaked every Porsche aficionado out at the time of its release:

Time hasn't been kind either.

Whatever Porsche design is these days... but please EQE and EQS remain unmentionable.

Yip, sometimes the badge goes some way to making a design more palatable. Other times, however - for example 5er, 7er and EQ - the badge is less effective.

That is a disgrace as well, but at that time it didn't look half as awful as it does now.

imo the EQE SUV looks better than this little monstrum.

True.

Your post made me smile in recognition of just how diametrically opposed peoples perception of design can be. And that is not at all bad. Otherwise, we'd all be driving nondescript, ubiquitous compact hatchbacks. Personally, I adore the new Macan E. I find it the most visually compelling new Porsche next to the 992s. To me, the Taycan is beginning to get a bit stale visually.

Quite a favourable review furnished by Jalopnik.com:

I agree with the author's assessment that Porsche is taking quite a gamble. Albeit being one that is calculated. Personally, I hope that Porsche's endeavour "Macan E" pays generous dividends for the company as well as for the case supporting electric vehicles in general. Having seen my first examples in the metal, I'm left increasingly impressed. I really do find it to be a very handsome car.
