Now with Ola Källenius holding the reins, my question is: Daimler-Benz, quo vadis ?? Will this end well ? Stay tuned.

That will mostly depend on how successful the EQ line up is. Right now, if everything MB had was the EQ line up, I could not be less interested.

Outside VAG, I don't thinl what German brands are doind with EVs is too interesting. At least compared to things like the new R5 or even Tesla.

IMHO Daimler have just killed the SL, then taken the GT cabrio and put it the SL moniker, because it has more iconic perceprion by the market.

The new SL doesn't even look like the AMG GT. The rear-lights are a 1:1 copy of the current S-Class. The front recieves the same air-intakes as the GT63 and some cosmetics from the AMG Vision GT.
The same goes for the interior which is a mix of the 223's stlye and some EQS-Hyperscreen-whatever turbines.

Before Princess Diana got one which upset the British establishment. The direction here is more of a Sports Car. Having seen an example in real life it no longer has that long bonnet, stretched wheelbase and proportionate rear deck. It’s more in proportion to a BMW Z4.

But not at the very beginning. It was called Super Leight because its tubular bird cage frame weighed only 45 kg and the whole car was derived from the Panamericana winning racecar.

WOW this is clearly a warmed over GT - the only way that will work is if the new GT is a really hardcore even it's most basic form and they have softened the AMG GT that this SL has based on to make it somewhat more livable than the current GT is.

Maybe they’re just changing what the SL is ... but I don’t hope so. It also wouldn’t explain what is supposed to help replace the S-Cabriolet’s spot ?

As I remember the SL will have a Maybach variant as well, similarly to the S and the GLS, but more in the direction of the GLS since there won’t be an extra long variant where you can play with different and distinguishing designs elements inside and out.

most likely not gonna happen. The new SL is going back to its original roots as a Sport-Licht from its Grand Father the orginal 300 SL from 1954.
The styling theme like its falling bootlid is some of that DNA.

Over the years the SL has drifted from its original sporty theme and become a luxury crusier.

...and it could even have 4 doors (sedoupe) as well. And no-NOT an EQS with excessive makeup. Dame Edna is no longer en vogue. Ideal would be an automobile that is loosely based on the 6 concepts blueprint-with somewhat less exaggerated (bonnet is really toooo looong-as is the rear overhang) proportions.

IMHO their relation will be similar to that of the BMW Z4 and Toyota Supra - the cabrio trying to be as different from the coupe as possible, provided that under the skin they have the same basis.
