For me, this new 4 series coupe/cab makes the 8 series counterparts redundant. The 4 series 2 doors will be THE BMW 2+2 coupe/cabriolet. Design, packaging and price are very solid arguments that support the 4 versus the 8.

No, Sir, BMW must have some big, in yo' face, aggressive looking coupe in it's line up and that's what M8 is for.

Was 6 series and it's GC version redundant? Don't think so...

The F12/13/16 6 series cars were simply FAR too gorgeous to have ever been redundant . Especially in M6 guise, regardless of whether coupe, cabriolet or Gran Coupe. They were and remain eye-feasts, inside and out.

Unless the 4 series range will offer a V8 and have over 600hp there’s no way it could make the 8 series redundant, plus there are many people who will prefer the looks of the 8er over the 4er.

I would disagree only in the part 2+2. Yes, the 8er can not seat 4 in comfort but the 4er has enough room for 4 people and I wouldn't call it 2+2

If they said this is the M440i Coupe then yes. But the M4 varies significantly which I think it will be a good thing. No one can mistake it for a 420d with M Packet.
The way they talk about the new M3 and M4 certainly builds the anticipation and looks to be one of the most sought after cars of 2021.
People still talk about “that grille” ideally in the flesh it gives the car significant presence. It’s detractors might even love it when the covers come off in under a month.

The issue with Coupes in general today.
Is that the offer of a more practical Coupe either as Gran Coupe or Sportback are far more popular than the 2dr counterpart. Same sportier looks,performance but added practicality show why the more practical models are the best sellers in their respective categories. The 6er Gran Coupe outsold both Coupe and Cabrio. The current 4er Gran Coupe is out performing the current Coupe and Cabrio and expect 8er Gran Coupe to do the same.
No doubt the new 4 will follow.
Makes you wonder if Mercedes might follow with a smaller AMG GT or even an updated 5dr Sport coupe of the C-Klasse Coupe?

Seeing the CSL Hommage concept posted in one of the recent pages on the M3/M4 thread further indicates, that concept grille would have been the ideal size. It thread the needle of being "in your face" before bordering into obnoxious.

I do not know how they did it, but to one of the most beautiful cabriolets has managed to give it that touch of impetuousness that perhaps it lacked .... although I do not know if the current one lacked something since it is perfect in its own law and time, what important is that the new one, if this render tells us something, it is that they surpassed the level, sometimes to improve the perfect, there is nothing left but to be radical

440i sound really good. Would be nice if BMW could offer a colour like red for the roof like Audi and MB do.
