Save the particular Ferrari model or two (new Portofino especially), there is absolutely nothing in the greater FCA range of vehicles that leaves me even remotely enthusiastic. So unfortunate, as I was very close to fanatical about Italian cars way back in my youth. They were so exciting in comparison to those dull Germans ! From the original Cinquecento to the Ferrari 365 GTC/4 and all in between.

A neighbour of mine is a die hard Italian car fan. He has two alfas and recently bought a Fiat Panda 100. His wife now drives a Fiat 500XL.

We even went to an Italian car meet in Brooklands last year. There were hundreds of cars there.

Needless to say, Alfa have a very devoted fanbase. However quality and creature comfort needs to improve if they want to generate more sales from main stream customers.

Rumors of this car won't go away I see. A Guilia coupe would be sick. M4, C63, RS5, Guila Q Coupe.....................RC F.

There is a lot of talk about the Ferrari source engine tech but fewer words about the unrefined diesel engines and the poor fit and finish.

Typical Italian. As happens with Ducatis too.

^^
That more Italian and sexy unlike the two renders above. If the c is anything to judge by, I don't think the Giulia based coupe will dissapoint.

Are they actually going to show anything? Or just announce.

They really have their priorities don't they. The Punto is now 2 million years old with no sign of replacement where they actually need something for that segment. They need product for FIAT or else it will be FIAT that drag them to the bottom.
I remember launches of the Punto etc were highly significant.

It doesn't make sense to make additional expenses for development of new unsuccessful models. They are quite ok now, feeding on the Chrysler's tit. Although, I believe that with the FIAT's own dieselgate in the US, Chrysler will be back in American hands soon.

What for weird tactics they have. I mean, srsly, what are they doing? They gonna spend most of their r&d money for cars that will probably sold in very small quantities whereas the Punto/Panda and somehow the complete dodge portfolio needs a major overhaul. The same goes to to some Jeep cars like the Cherokee that sits on a modified Mercedes-platform. For me it looks like Alfa/Ferrari got all the attention and for the rest it's like: "Meh, we sell them either...". I'm missing the italian flair especially in the compact segment. Back then there were cars like the Uno or the Croma (154). The only cars they sell here right now is the 500 in dozens of different bodystyles. The super-cheap Tipo, the rebadged Mazda aka Fiat 124 and the Panda. The Punto is now 13 years old (wtf).

Their best car the FIAT 500 (I also think that it is great, at least design wise) is also a decade old.

Well... Announcement of a new 5 year plan is at Balocco. So I think that they will show something.

AFAIK 3 models of Alfa Romeo will come out around 2020. Two SUV models and one Cuope. We know that two SUV models are C and E segment. Question is about Coupe. Is it a 6C, Giulia Coupe or maybe an Alfetta GT/GTV?

Cherokee is on Italian platform.

For Grand Cherokee I will post a transcript from last FCA Conference Call. That was the one for a 2018 Q1 earnings.

Okay. Thank you. And the second question is on Alfa Romeo, you mentioned the starting point for your successor will be good for the group, but what will be the starting point for Alfa Romeo standalone?

Sergio Marchionne - Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV

I'm not sure I understand the question about standalone Alfa. I don't think I ever made a comment about the brand standing alone. I think the starting point for my successor in running the group is a much better starting point that I've seen since I've been here in the last 14, 15 years. I just think that – and hopefully, we will be able to delineate the development that we expect out of Alfa and Maserati going forward as we get together on June 1, but I think the future for both of those premium brands is pretty clear.

I go back to what I say, the minute you start repeating yourself you should be careful, but I think those brands today represent a pretty visible assertion of the technical skill level that FCA has been able to develop in the last few years. And I think we have spent – if I told you how many hours we have spent internally analyzing the architectural choices that we've had to make in connection with the launch of the new Grand Cherokee which is coming on in 2020. And if we were to explain to you the interconnectedness of that architecture with the work that's gone on with Alfa in the last four years, you will be incredibly surprised as to how the depth of knowledge that we acquired since 2012 in developing Alfa has actually weaved itself into the development of the Grand Cherokee.

And I think we can't ignore those facts. I think they keep on reinforcing the fact that all these things are ultimately connected and then it's up to us in managing these processes to make sure that we extract the highest level of, I hate using the term synergy, but we extract the highest level of utilization from these investments which have been pretty massive and large over time and they effectively benefit the whole portfolio of FCA. That's something hopefully will become visible on June 1 as we point out the far reaching changes that are going on not just in terms of architectures, but also in terms of engines, power trains, and the intrusion of electrification into the portfolio. So we're less than two months away from that day, June 1 is pretty close. So, just hang on to your seat.

He just said a whole lot of nothing. 2020 for the new JGC? FCA is simply too slow and broke.

Sergio doesn't give a crap about those low margin vehicles. Will be interesting to see what is announced in June.

It doesn't make sense to make additional expenses for development of new unsuccessful models. They are quite ok now, feeding on the Chrysler's tit. Although, I believe that with the FIAT's own dieselgate in the US, Chrysler will be back in American hands soon.

I think this is a bit overblown. I can guarantee their dieselgate situation isn't going to be anywhere near as intense as VW's, and further, diesel was a very limited part of their portfolio. Fiat and Chrysler are indeed the biggest losers here, as they are last to get product. Chrysler will be getting a couple of crossovers soon which will be great, I have no idea what the plan is for Fiat. Dodge brand will be fine as the new Durango, RWD crossovers and sports cars eventually phase in. Dodge is not a brand Sergio is positioning for high volume.

He just said a whole lot of nothing. 2020 for the new JGC? FCA is simply too slow and broke.

The delays are indeed ridiculous, but the Ford Explorer also came out in 2011 and is only getting replaced a year earlier. FCA spent a ton of time going back and forth between refining the WK2 platform or adapting the Giorgio platform (which they seem to have settled on) which contributed to delays.

A lot of this perceived silliness is from Sergio's mission to get to zero net debt.
