Range Rover Sport Range Rover Sport (L494)

The Land Rover Range Rover Sport, generally known as the Range Rover Sport, is a mid-size luxury SUV produced by Land Rover, later Jaguar Land Rover. The first generation (codename: L320) started production in 2005, and was replaced by the second generation Range Rover Sport (codename: L494) in 2013, which was replaced by the third generation Range Rover Sport (codename: L461) in 2022.

I flipping love it. And I care not a jot for why I shouldn't. It looks mighty in white!
 
Since the X6M have been sold I have nothing to "hide" anymore. And since my test drive with a friends Cayenne and whom I hooked-up with JLBM (James) to compare notes on ownership, I can say this: Weight as being mentioned in the RR-Sport tests is and will always be the 'issue' with SUV's. I will and can carry more speed through any corner with the X1 than any Cayenne, X6M or RR*Sport. No matter who you are or what you do, their weight always 'shines' through;)

Much is being done by the engineers to actually achieve extraordinary "G's" through corners, taking into account these cars weight. height and breadth. But you are always aware of the heavy burdon and the laws of physics working against these cars.

I suppose that is quite true. But in the case of the RR Sport, it is also quite capable off the road and has far more interior volume than your X1. It probably has a more refined ride as well (read comfortable).

As some of you recall I did a piece on the RR Evoque a while back when I was considering one but its boot just wouldn't accommodate the son's wheelchair so I said at the time give me a call when the RR Sport came out. Well I got that call today out of the blue asking if I wanted one for the day to see what I thought, either Wednesday or Thursday they should have a demo available and give me a call to collect or deliver to my work.

Quite looking forward to driving this to see if it lives up to the hype and who knows I might actually like it.

Just makes me wonder, now owning and experiencing a Body-on-Frame vehicle and the ruggedness of it all with the FJ Cruiser. Using a RR+RR Sport off road frequently (fairly rough terrain, punishing the frame) within say 25 000 miles what would the stresses on a Unibody have done? Take a M-B GL without the 'newest' methods of Aluminum Unibody Construction that Land Rover claims and repeat my scenario. Point is I can't nor do I believe these vehicles unibody construction could keep structural integrity, working in 'body-twisting-terrain' frequently. X5/X6 or a friends ML, they tend to develop creaks and rattles just by driving relatively smooth gravel roads - not so frequently!

Just wondering.

Maybe why those who wonder (like me) stay with G-class's, LandCruiser 200's and Chevy Suburbans :unsure:
 
^I drove two Range Rover Sports prior to placing my order, one a SC AutoBiography and the other a diesel HSE Dynamic both with over 5000 miles of hard demo usage and neither had a single rattle so in my opinion their rigidity is sound.

they definitely require frequent check from the dealers at certain check points, tighten the bolts again. I used to feel my SUVs drive different after each offroad season. A quick trip to the dealer and it is "stiff" again :D
