New Volvo S90L long-wheelbase model spotted in China

The long-wheelbase variant of the new Volvo S90 is expected to debut at China's Guangzhou Auto Show in early December before finally making its way to the US & Europe sometime next year.

Thanks to these images from Autohome, we can have our first look at the stretched-out S90, which is said to feature 12 extra centimeters (4.7 in), offering passengers more legroom in the back.

In China, the S90L will face stiff competition in what is now Volvo's biggest market, from the likes of the Audi A6, BMW 5-Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Jaguar XF, all available in long-wheelbase variants.

According to Carnewschina, the exact dimensions of the S90L are 5,083mm/1,879mm/1,450mm (200in/73in/57in), with the stretched wheelbase measuring 3,061mm (120 in). In comparison, the regular S90 measures 4,963mm/1,879mm/1,443mm (195in/73in/56in) and has a wheelbase of 2,941mm (115 in).

These images clearly show two different models engine & spec-wise. This means we'll likely see the a 2.0-liter turbo unit in two different versions, a T4 and a T5 (both of which pictured in the gallery below), unlike the regular-wheelbase S90 that's offered in China exclusively as a 320hp T6 hybrid.

We also don't see any L next to the S90 badge. We do however see what translates into 'Volvo Asia' underneath the model-name - a badge that is currently used on all China-made Volvo cars. As for the visual difference between the T4 and the T5, the latter seems to have larger and more extravagant alloys, and a more elegant dual-exhaust setup.

Resale value would probably be terrible and the interior would be an absolute bitch to keep it clean, but it's a nice combination in my opinion. Really nice.

Indeed it is Giannis. If I had to nitpick and I will, I'd say the S90 needs 18 to 20-inch multi-spoke wheels to look really good. As for that arse... I'm actually starting to get used to it.

Almost the the same exact spec except with the "amber" leather or whatever it's called.

I feel sorry for the S90. Taxi companies won't buy it and families will shun it for the V90, XC60 or X90. What works against it is the lack of great reviews and high price.

I forgot to mention, but the beautiful S90 I posted above is a D5 AWD Inscription Pro wih a massive specification that included four zone air con, every single driver assistance option available and it ended up costing almost £54,000!

Anyway, I was looking at the equipment list of the S90 and even the base Momentum D4 is already equipped with adaptive cruise control, sat/nav, dual zone climate control and it looks surprisingly elegant for a base model as you can see in the video below.

Today I have seen another S90. The car was at a traffic light in front of me so I have had a little bit of time to get a better impression of the car.
I was not a fan of the rear design when I have seen the pics and thought if I would buy a 90 then a V90 because of the better looking rear although I prefer sedans in general.
But now I have to revise my opinion. For me the rear of the S90 looks gorgeous.
I don't know how I can explain it.
The rear is simply different and has a very strong presence. It's not a mainstream design.
I love it. :)

The only two gripes I have with the very good looking S90, is
1. it's tiny fueltank of 55 litres in case of FWD/60 litres in case of AWD. For a car this seize and weight just too small;
2. no 5 or 6 cylinder engines.

My sentiments exactly, makes an otherwise perfectly good car feel somewhat shortshifted
