X2 [Official] The BMW Concept X2

Upside-down kidney grille is an oooooooooooold idea. BMW design management has been rooting for that feature to be approved for a loooooong time. Remember this Huckfeldt's "X6" CGIs (from 2008) and even this mysterious BMW X-sedan unpremiered concept from 2009, or that leaked sketch of proposed BMW SuperSport Compact Coupe in 2009?

Seriously, I'm not liking this design direction at all.

So I was right and Upside-down kindey grille would be for "sporty" model?

Planned for SACs. Some other niche models will get GINA-like kidney treatment - conventional inner kidneys in upside-down kidney frame.

Also ... get ready for vertical kidney grille ala 328 Hommage / 3.0 CSL Hommage / iNext in the not so distant future. And for overblown kidneys ala VFL Concept. More kidney grille styling differentiation when it comes to variants & models in the future.

The front end on this is surprisingly well balanced imo. Very nice.

It's one of their best X designs to date, simple, characterful and not pretentious and the best thing is the production version will look better as in this case, the concept car fancy add ons are doing more harm than good imo.

If we remove some of the conceptual detailing the car is very much in the high 90% of the actual X2.
The outline is exact and so is the height and length. The strong lines and muscular body very much make production.
You will be surprised on what will actually make production.
Although if you do not like the X2. Next year there will be a MINI Countryman Coupe concept to take over where the PACEMAN left off. But with 5drs for extra practicality. Now that the Countryman has grown.
It remains to be seen whether the X2 3dr will enter production.

They make all these crazy niches but don't want to make a RWD compact hatch or sedan

I like the car. Like it a lot. Would be nice if this was the X6 instead of the turd we have (except for the X6M).

Sadly, I liked the previous FWD BMW Concepts too, and ended up hating the production versions.

So I will remain sceptical until the production version reveal.

Oh, that does not look bad either...

I wonder where are we going to see the inverted grille. BMW considers this car as a coupe, so maybe the new 8er feautures this as well. Or the new X6 (with the new X5 under testing, it is safe to asume a new X6 is also on the works).

Scott said it would be featured on the future X models, which makes sense to me. Gives them a more masculine, raw look, which suits fine to an SAV/SAC.

Would believe they'll continue with the traditional kidneys on most coupés.

i see this and it makes me wonder why 2018. Fall 2017 would have been great. 2018 means most likely this is not an option for me for my next vehicle.

I think the introduction will be in 2017 as MY 2018.
