Wraith [Official] Rolls-Royce Wraith

The Rolls-Royce Wraith is a full-size ultra-luxury car/grand tourer manufactured by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars and based on the chassis of the Rolls-Royce Ghost sedan which is also shared with the Rolls-Royce Dawn convertible. The Wraith shares its nameplate with the 1938 model by the original Rolls-Royce company. The body style is a two-door pillar-less coupe with suicide doors, where all side windows can roll down like in a convertible. This body style was popular in American cars during the 1950s and 1960s, and was known as the hardtop body style, not used by Rolls-Royce since 1955.

On sale early 2016
Our spies have sent us a batch of images with the Rolls-Royce Dawn which will go on sale early next year.

Previously referred to as the Wraith Drophead Coupe, the Rolls-Royce Dawn is basically a soft top convertible version of the Wraith Coupe and has already been confirmed for an early 2016 market launch so it could be unveiled as early as September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Dealer representatives have already seen the car last month at the 2015 Rolls-Royce World Dealer Conference in Los Angeles, California and now the model is undergoing final testing procedures.

Power will come from the same twin-turbo 6.6-liter V12 engine sourced from the Wraith where it develops 624 bhp (465 kW) and 800 Nm (591 lb-ft) sent to the road through an 8-speed automatic transmission. The coupe needs 4.4 seconds to cover the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) journey which means the soft top convertible will do the sprint in around 4.6 seconds since it will be a bit heavier due to the added weight commanded by the roof.

The Rolls-Royce Dawn will be more expensive than the Wraith which in Europe begins at around €245,000.

^^ At a certain angle, Rolls royce dropheads always seem to have a sort of 60's French Riviera cruiser feel to them, and thats why I like them.

Rolls-Royce has quietly unveiled the Wraith Porto Cervo.

Set to debut at the Rolls-Royce Summer Studio in Italy, the special edition draws "inspiration from the spirit of Costa Smeralda" and features a blue exterior with a white coachline and special graphics.

Bigger changes occur in the cabin as drivers will find an Arctic White and Navy Blue interior with embroidered headrests and Royal Walnut Open Pore wood trim. The model also has metal inlays, contrast piping and slate seatbelts.

Like the standard model, power is provided by a twin-turbo 6.6-liter V12 engine that develops 632 PS (624 bhp / 465 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. It enables the luxury coupe to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds, before hitting a limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

Production will be limited to three units but there's no word on pricing.

Rolls-Royce at Goodwood 2015

The Porsche 918 Spyder is the reigning champion of the Nürburgring but that hasn't stopped Rolls-Royce from pointing out the high-performance supercar was recently beat by a Wraith at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

In a press release, Rolls-Royce says the Wraith managed to complete the 1.16 mile (1.86 km) long course in 57.21 seconds which bested the Bentley Continental GT (60.65), the Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale Centennial Edition (59.00) and the aforementioned Porsche 918 Spyder Weissach (61.37).

While it's probably safe to say the 918 Spyder wasn't going all out, Rolls-Royce added the Wraith crossed the finish line at 106 mph (170 km/h) which beat the company's previous record at Goodwood.

The whole Rolls range looks boring now... especially with all the new tech and design elements featured on the latest crop of German cars... again, what in your mind defines luxury?? I honestly think that besides bragging rights these ultra luxury cars have nothing over the new German A and B segment cars and SUVs which are IMHO the best the auto industry has to offer...

Rolls-Royce St. James Edition

Becomes the most powerful Rolls ever made
Rolls-Royce has revealed yet another special edition for the Wraith - the St. James Edition.

The two-door luxury machine features a unique bright red body paint supplemented by an aluminium radiator grille, chrome door handles and window surrounds. The car also comes with 5-spoke two tone alloy wheels.

This one is powered by the same 6.6-liter V12 twin-turbo engine that is mounted in all Wraith models but the unit has been tuned to produce 632 PS (465 kW), making it the most powerful production Rolls-Royce ever made. The motor also generates 800 Nm (59 lb-ft), available from 1,500 rpm up to 5,500 rpm.

Think of it as somebody buying a castle or chateau that has existed for centuries compared to somebody buying a new mansion etc.
A lot of people prefer traditional luxury instead of blinged out modern homes. Do you really need a toilet fabricated of solid gold?

I don't think Rolls-Royce is old-fashioned. We all know that these BWW-era Royces are all about packaging rather than engineering.

It is sad because Rolls-Royce's pre-war reputation was built on its outstanding engineering ......now it's all about the luxurious experience.

Not much use for engineers at Goodwood ....apart from the ones who unpack the crates from Munich and assemble the parts.

Thruth be told, the drive train including the axles and electronis maybe unpacked in Goodwood yes, yet the rest that you see, touch, feel and experience are handbuilt to perfection. As much as I love the new BMW 7 and respect the S-class range (including S-Maybach) NOTHING compares or even comes close to the excelllence of Rolls-Royce. The sales charts in this upper-utter-luxury class belongs to Rolls-Royce and if ever I win a lotto worthy of buying anything a Wraith it will be...it's a dream, a recurring dream owning such a masterpiece of masterpieces. I thank BMW for owning the prestigious brand and keeping it alive!

I do understand your point.

I have questioned the relevance of Rolls-Royce for a while ......I keep coming back to comparing it to the cars that made the marque so respected in the past .......but I realise that is not a relevant comparison.

You are of course right, the sales speak for themselves ......Rolls-Royce's reputation is unquestionably strong .......and fully deserved.

The Wraith is a spectacular car ......and those who continually try to compare it with the S class Coupé or even the Bentley Continental GT are missing the point altogether. It is unlikely that the buyer of a Wraith will spend much time thinking about alternatives ......you are either a Rolls-Royce fan or you're not.
