The Land Rover Range Rover Velar, generally known as the Range Rover Velar, is a crossover SUV produced by Jaguar Land Rover under their Land Rover marque. The fourth model in the Range Rover line, the Velar was unveiled on 1 March 2017 in London, England. The name Velar had previously been used for a series of pre-production first-generation Range Rovers in 1969.

It is good looking but I can’t help to think that is lacks the commanding presence of the RR Sport SVR.

Yes there is something more commanding about the Sport. The Velar SVR is for the customer who just wants the best of the best for that model.
Would have expected to see the car debut @ Geneva. But JLR are not attending. They have also cancelled the Range Rover Coupe. I wonder if the deposits get returned?

I had a hunch they wouldn’t get enough deposits to make the car project profitable, let alone break even. JLR’s recent sales struggles has appropriately killed this ill conceived garage project.

The genius of the Range Rover is that it straddles the equator of the luxury and ultra-luxury segment so they can justify the high prices it entails. You can have the base Vogue right up to the stratospheric EWB and Autobiography Dynamic SV.
The Coupe was to showcase that the Ceiling has not been broken yet.
Now they have been stunted but there are concerns in the industry to the stability of JLR. Their political stances are quickly being shot down that they are running out of excuses.

It was 999 units for the Coupe, each individually numbered.
All orders were sold all with deposits.

Daamn... They should have made them anyway for history, even at a close to zero profit margin. But actually I've also read that they were already all sold 
Finally they could have raised the price slightly to help with the current financial difficulties, or just asked for a much higher deposit, which I'm sure most clients would have agreed upon.

Interesting approach by JLR. Instead of creating a racing biased SUV they have decided to make the top of the the range Velar a muscle SUV. Throaty and rebellious V8 but comfortable.
Basically, audible theater and prestige of a 542hp V8 but without an overly firm ride.

It is. Get one while you can because in 7 years time, throaty and thirsty V8s might be replaced with hybrid V6 engines in this class of SUVs.
