Range Rover [Official] Range Rover Face Lift (L405)

The Land Rover Range Rover, generally shortened to Range Rover, is a 4x4 luxury SUV produced by Land Rover, a marque and sub-brand of Jaguar Land Rover. The Range Rover line has been in production since it was launched in 1970 by British Leyland. Additional models have been launched under the Range Rover name, including the Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Evoque, and Range Rover Velar.
Is it enough to convince you to trade up?

It's going to an addition as a family car. I started to feel the ergonomic effects of just having a 2 door. The wait for the new G over a year so I passed for moment.

@sako97 You mean the screens/software only or is it not tech-packed as it's supposed to be?

Software gets pretty laggy and convenience features that were previously hard buttons (steering wheel) are now backlit/digital, which will get infuriating. It's going to take some serious updates to get the response on Tesla or Audi's level.

It's back :D

It's still the best luxury SUV you can buy, IMO. From the pic I've seen of the Rolls, the Rover is likely to keep its position.

I have recently rented facelift RR sport in Dubai, they have the same new touch screen and steering wheel touch buttons.

The screen is not that laggy, but also not quick, I could not get used to the steering wheel buttons, I spent 3 days driving the car.

So beautiful, more prettier than charmless Cullinan.

What a poor excuse of an SUV the Bentayga is. Sales are dead too.

Looks like a mid-size crossover, yet is 152mm longer than the RR.

I have seen the face-lifted range rovers and have been surprised how little they have been aged by the Velar. The RR Sport for examples has presence and size that the Velar lacks from a distance.

Cullinan and Bentayga just have nothing on the RR AB.
Nope. The RR AB and G-Wagon are much more iconic in appearence. It will be game over for Bentley and Rolls Royce when the new Range Rover is launched in 2-3 years.

Bentley sure, RR absolutely no way. The RR is cutting edge, despite it's looks.

That's what i said in my post btw. The RR AB rules this segment despite the Cullinan and Bentayga.

Yes Tarek, because we know nothing about the Rolls yet, with ZERO tests. Yet you do.

Oh wait, you are just trolling as usual because the RR is made by BMW. So shallow. And pathetic. And predictable. And sad.

Hmmmm.. gotta disagree with that. There's "iconic" and then there's "established". JLR really have nowhere to go with the styling of the Range Rover... it was good looking 15 years ago, but then they've just had to tweak things for the sake of tweaking and frankly it boggles the mind how people here can be so forgiving of that whopping hockey-stick implementation and Faux vent on the door of the Range Rover (I mean, it made some sense at least when it was on the wing). But, it is established.

I'd agree that the G-Class is somewhat more iconic, because it's been the same thing for such a long time, and it's hard not respect it because its utilitarian roots define its looks. But as we saw with the new G-Class, Mercedes have had to play it very safe because if it strays from those utilitarian roots it will lose its credibility.

The Rolls-Royce is every bit as Iconic as a Rolls-Royce should be because it uses all the iconic Rolls-Royce cues that are part of the brand. There's no getting away from the Pantheon Grille and the Spirit of Ecstasy, which are arguably some of the most iconic styling elements in the automotive industry. What it's not, is established.

People wouldn't be so forgiving of the G-Classes styling if it wasn't established, because lets face it... it's a tin shed. If any other manufacturer launched an SUV at those prices that looks like it belongs in a farm yard towing stuff, they'd get slaughtered.

I'm not hating on the G-class by the way... in proper outdoors off-road scenario it'd be my choice, and the 6×6 is just bonkers in a fantastic way. In the urban environment, it struggles to shed the gangsta wannabe image, but that's not really the cars fault.

I'm probably hating on the Range Rover a bit because I see it as bit of a pastiche of what it was, and basically it's become a trendy option, where it used to be the best option (or the only option!)

edit: just to add, when I was still in nappies my father was taking the family to dealer events, some of my earliest car memories are this kind of thing... a photo my dad took in 1979.. moderately wealthy middle-Englanders doing their thing... some of whom came in via helicopter.

I think you said it best “you’re just hating”. The Range Rover is iconic. The basic shaped remains unchanged. JLR has been able to modernize the RR in a way that Merc couldn’t ever do with G. There would be a revolt! I’d say Merc is more boxed in (pun intended) with the G, than JLR is w/ the RR.

I'd rather you didn't use quotation marks if you're going to purposely incorrectly paraphrase something I've said.

As for your point, I wasn't suggesting that Range Rover have no heritage in their established design... more that in trying to modernise the details that sit in between those lines, it's just gotten worse. Having said that, though the rest of the proportions have stayed fairly true to the classic Range Rover, moving to a sloping nose from a flat nose is one of my biggest gripes with the current one.

It used to be a car for the aspiring agricultural aristocracy... it's now a statement for well off city dwellers.

I concur. Having spoken to a few members of the R&D team, they were extremely cautious in their approach on developing the L405 and bring the designing to the 21st century. 6 years later, the current Range Rover is the most successful one yet.

Customers asked for a dynamic design, whilst demanding certain classic features remain - sloping roofline, split tailgate, elevated driving position w/captains style seats (actually, they asked for the L322’s front seats to be carried over), large windshield, the location of the window switches, etc.

I agree with what you say, but the lines drawn into those pictures don't make sense to me. They only count for the 2002 and 2013 models, IMO

Liking Rovers can be a bad habit. I just found out the pano roof can be opened with gesture control (waving your hand backwards). Pretty neat convenience
