Panamera [Official] Porsche Panamera

The Porsche Panamera is a mid to full-sized luxury car (E-segment or F-segment for LWB in Europe) manufactured and marketed by Porsche. The Panamera name, as with the Carrera name, is derived from the Carrera Panamericana race.
Ok, so I attended the shwanky Porsche Panamera launch last night. Very pleasant event, stylishly executed by Porsche SA.

As for the Panamera, well all I have to say is what's been said many times before now. Pictures are rather unkind to the car as, in the metal, the Panamera has a look and presence that is simply unlike anything else out there. It is an odd looking car but, it's this stark difference to anything else out there that sees the Panamera drawing more attention than I expected. It's this difference that I found beguiling. The Panamera is low, the odd roofline hence becomes less pronounced when viewed from standing outside the car. I tried taking a picture with my supposed 3.2 Mp Nokia camera phone but heck it came out dismally. In any event, here's the horror for all you professional photo freaks. ;)

On the interior side, barring the tiniest details (e.g. metal bezels for the air-vent adjustment would've been just so), the Panamera's cabin is sensational. Design is top drawer, lack of an i-Knobbie is refreshing and the tactile quality is beyond my wildest dreams - especially with the leather pack interior option, which sees among other things, an alcantara roof lining. Sit-behind-self rear legroom is ample and the car is every bit a luxury conveyance. Quite snug, even intimate in other respects though.

The sound of the Panamera Turbo from the back end with some over-zealous kid on the throttle - OMFG! Fantastic.

Anyone lucky enough to be able to afford it will have a truly special car - no matter how quirky the styling may be.

Lucky you Martin! Can you see the envy on my face:D

Did you get to drive the car?....I would love to feel not just the power and drive but I do love suspension engineering and the Panamera's air suspension really fascinate me!

Didn't get to drive it. It was a more of an unveiling that took place at an evening function.

If I recall correctly fortuner, it's [pre-options] R 1,050,000 for Panamera S, R 1,075,000 for Panamera 4S and R 1,660,000 for Panamera Turbo. Then you get stuck into the options list. ;)

Value for money! I mean an X1 128i X-Drive would be more that 1/2 the price of the Panamera S & no perceived quality problems on the Porsche :D

I am just flattered that everyone remembers me when seeing the Panamera.

Thanks my fellow GCF members.

Martin: I can't thank you enough just to mention my name above their.

Thanks all.

Best regards

Value for Money? With a Porsche? Never be mislead by the base pricelist from Zuffenhausen's finest. The options are where Porsche makes big profit - and everyone, I mean everyone chooses options on their Porsche.

Sounds all too familiar....BMW invented OPTIONS!

Martin, how is the driving position?....BMW 7er ish like or typical Porsche with a low seating position...

The driving position is very low, especially if you keep the seat height adjustment on a lower setting. Very sporty interior. As I said, quite cosy... the high beltline of the car and shallow DLO gives one the unmistakeable impression of being in a sporting car. Even the windscreen is surprisingly shallow from inside. Still, forward visibility is satisfactory - only the very fat a-pillars impede vision.

All controls fall nicely to hand. PDK shift buttons on the steering wheel are dreadfully unintuitive.

Thanks Martin if any body ever says to you that you give TMO...F - Them!
You've put in such a descriptive way I am sitting in the Panamera right now!
I just Loooooove narrow glass or the feeling you get from a base car like the 1er...SPORTY! Rakish windscreen, low seating position - And I must admit that I knew from the pic's the dash and layout would be near perfect!

Oh, and another piece of trivial opinion... regarding the colour choice of the car.

My friend and I remarked that the Panamera looks it's best in darker colours. As some of you may know, I'm a fan of white cars but white wouldn't work on a Panny imo. Sparkly black looks fantastic, if you're into 70's rock, bell-bottoms and brown then the dark metallic hue-of-poo ought to look rather nice too - in a fleetingly fashionable kind of way. Dark metallic grey (with light grey interior), midnight blue (with contrasting tan leather interior) - these appear to be the smartest colour choices for the Panamera.

That's pretty much like I see it. Thanks Martin for the writeup (okay, and for that picture ;)). :usa7uh:

The Pana has such an amazing stance, it's a stunning car, even from behind. Instantly recognized as a P car, but still special. Funny enough I saw a Turbo and a 4S driving, but the latter didn't look that good from behind, which is totally inexplicable to me. Is it the longing for power that deceives the senses? :t-hands:

Oh, and it does draw attention. Anybody's M3 driving behind was almost invisible. :D;)

Best regads,

I must say I do like white - on SAV's for the practical part. If I where to buy ANY lux car i.e. 7er or the Panamera I would buy a sparkling graphite or pearl black with a black interior - though saddle brown or lemon would be nice too - thus DARK colours for me as well!

That said....sorry for the dissapointment...Mr. BMW would have the....Panamera!

Thanks Martin for the writeup
Pleasure!

Immense presence honestly - I can't argue with that. Speaking of the 4S not looking as good - I noticed that the stock 4S sans sport chrono pack does not look as beefy at the back because of the ordinary oval exhaust outlets as opposed to the asymmetrical trapezoidal units on the turbo. Could this be an explanation?

Very sporty interior. As I said, quite cosy...

Haha, thats the word I also used after being behind the steering wheel of Panamera.

And regarding the price, its redicolous, the ones I saw costed like Ferrari F430 and these were only the base model.

I really need to get myself a nice compact digital camera that's water-resistant, drop proof and, again, compact.

Carrying a DSLR everywhere I go is impossible. So, sorry all you cheeky buggers for the shite picture! :D

Fookin Nokia kak.
