Boxster/Cayman (987) [Official] Porsche Cayman GT4

The Porsche 987 is the internal designation for the second generation Porsche Boxster sports car, built from 2004 to 2012. In 2005, it was joined in the range by the new Cayman fastback coupé (project 987c). Production: July 2004–2012 (Boxster), August 2005–2012 (Cayman). It was succeeded by the Porsche 981 in 2012.
Wow. Will there be a Boxster version?

M

Not a GT4 version, but a half monty like the previous Spyder version - something in between a GTS and GT4 (apparently it will be called "club sport").

My guess is, it will get the 385HP engine, but probably rated at "375" some other bs number, but no GT3 suspension or brakes or the big wing.

Who's betting? PDK will come within 12 months of launch... AP suggests that it isn't completely ruled out. I reckon this is a purist-appeasing move.

Can't help but rationalise it like this. Excuse the stuck record...

This car as confirmed in the interview has more than 385 hp...(y)Then the weight: 1340 kg that can be lowered with seatings and carbon brake system. Let me say 1320 kg at the end.Not bad for a car that easily will fly around 400 hp.
Now some interesting dimensional comparaison between the previous 997 gt3 MKII and this GT4:

Gt3 MkII: 1400 kg circa x 435 hp
Length 4,427 mm
Width 1,808 mm
Height 1,280 mm

Gt4: 1340 kg circa x over 385 hp as declared by the boss..in the interview
lenghts 4,438 mm
width 1,817 mm
height 1,266 mm

At the end two similar cars for the size, less weight and 35/40 hp less for the Gt4. But better brake system compared to the past 997 GT3 and better handling. I suppose it will deliver a lot of fun!!!And don't forget that this engine can be tuned easily just with map and exhaust to deliver well over 400 hp.

I ask myself something about the smart Porsche's marketing..They release this car just few hours after the arrival of an iconic CAR. The new 488 by Ferrari. But the release it was planned for the 5th February. So I ask myself why and possibly I find two reasons.
First , Porsche says in this way, "come'n guys, we are here for you don't worry... Does not exist only Ferrari on the market for these kind of dreams .."
Second, they know very well what a "wowww" factor a new Ferrari car, releases in the huge, passionate and enthusiastic crowd of drivers around the Forums and the World. But they even know that at the end not many will buy one of course. And they launch a subliminal message to these people (most of us)..."You can buy and have fun with our new GT4 for just 85.000 euro..." . Something that sounds plausible and reasonable to most of us, when just for a second we realize how much does it cost a Ferrari dream. At the end, all the pulsions generated by the arrival of the new 488 (it is enough to read the posts related to the 488 on this Forum to understand what I mean) , will find a reasonable beach where to land...and Porsche marketing started..Sorry for my poor English and thinking, I made my best:cool:

Wow wow wow wow!!!

I am gobsmacked!! I thought the 911 GT3 was an amazing and awesome car and one of my dream cars, but this new Cayman GT4 is totally amazing and the new car of my dreams!!

What a beauty, love its looks and love what Porsche have done to distance it from other Cayman's. So happy they have used a manual 6 speed for this car and have made it a true driving machine of the highest order. It may not be as fast as a DSG version but the satisfaction of shifting the gears yourself and playing with the throttle and clutch is motoring heaven.

This car will for sure be one of the worlds best driving cars, fantastic!!

This is my new favourite sports car!! As much as I love the new Ferrari 488 GTB, this Cayman is more my kind of car and more in my reach to purchase one day as well!!
