Cayenne Official: Porsche Cayenne Diesel

The Porsche Cayenne is a series of automobiles manufactured by Porsche since 2002. It is a luxury crossover SUV, and has been described as both a full-sized and a mid-sized vehicle.
Not turbo-charged, Centurion? What, will it be super-charged?
I think you confused with the petrol-V6 with a Kompressor, didn't you?

I also drove several non-turbo diesels: Benz W124 250d and 300d, 190d, Oldsmobile diesel, Fiat Bravo diesel... Well that is INCREDIBLY slow, I mean you don't even feel you're moving towards tyhe first seconds you floor them, you only hear the noise increasing to ridiculous levels... Slow to the point of becoming dangerous.

With the Diesel in the X6 you were instantly thrown forward the second you touched the pedal, instant. I didn't even know that I was driving the diesel version until I was half way through the test drive. The engine was so good that it erased the mental blockage we typically have that prevents us from liking a diesel powered car. Would love to get behind the wheel of this Cayenne though.

Porsche has released official details about the new Cayenne diesel, the first oil-burning car from the famous sports car manufacturer.
It’s powered by a 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel powerplant, borrowed from stablemate brand Audi and will be going on sale in February next year. The 3.0 TDI engine offers 240bhp and returns a combined 30mpg in the Cayenne, according to Porsche’s official figures. That equates to CO2 emissions of 244g/km.

It will be a turbo-diesel.:usa7uh:

I never drove a 35d, however what I am able to say is that between a 30d and a 3.0l TDI, the 30d feels significantly faster. The response is almost instantaneous while the Audi isn't, and the motor is rawer but clearly more aggressive. While the Audi block is bit more refined, but clearly feels heavier.

That "comfortable" character, linked with the weight of the Cayenne, is a big part of my annoyment with this car. Unless Porsche did a big tweaking job, this cayenne will feel slow and heavy.

Guys, you MUST try a 35d in a sedan, not truck. Especially you, raoul... Then we can talk...;)

Oh really, did you?:D

Do you imply your BMW is a huge lot sportier than a Porsche?:D The we finally agree, don't we...

2 words: B... Me! :D

We won't agree 'til you try a 3er or 5er with 35d engine and withdraw everything you've said about diesels. Then you'll need to apologize, buy a round for the whole GCF and put Respect @ Modern Diesels in your signature...

Oh, did i mention you'll also need to bring Laetitia Casta to me? :D

Stuttgart/Leipzig. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart has started production of the new Cayenne Diesel at its Leipzig works. The sports utility vehicle is equipped with a three liter V6 turbo diesel engine with 240 HP (176 kW) supplied by Audi AG.

The engine in the new Cayenne distinguishes itself through its spontaneous vehicle response. In addition, its brawny torque of maximum 550 Newton meters offers sporty handling and masterful road sovereignty, thereby delivering that pure driving pleasure typical of Porsche. Nonetheless, the Cayenne Diesel consumes an average of only 9.3 liters per 100 kilometers, its CO2 emissions are 244 grams per kilometer. This new addition to the Cayenne family now makes for a product line of seven models.
The Cayenne Diesel will be available for sale from February 2009 onwards. Fitted with the tried-and-tested Tiptronic S automatic transmission as standard, the basic Euro price will be about € 47,250. In Germany, the Cayenne with diesel engine, in-cluding 19 percent VAT and country-specific equipment will cost € 56,436.

Raoul, you think the 30d y faster than 320 CDI?, I´ve always think that is a very refinned Mercedes engines, and very fast.

330d: 245 hp, 520 Nm, 0-100 6.1 sec
C320 CDI: 224 hp, 510 Nm, 0-100 7.7 sec

CO2 and economy are both better for the 330d (5.7 liter per 100 km vs. 6.9l/100 km and 152 gram/km vs. 182 gram/km

Sorry for being late, I didn't access the Internet in recent times...

The 30d undeniably feels faster than the 320cdi. However, the 320 is more creamy, more a honey-type of motor. The 30d is bit rawer, bit less refined, which is also what gives this impression of greater responsivity.

In fact, I drive the 320cdi on the torque only, barely revving it at all. Whereas the 30d can be driven more like a petrol engine, it revvs more freely and has a more immediate response. However, it still can't hide the fact it's a diesel, so the power delivery clearly falls beyond 4500rpm.

The 3.2 TDI is in-between: not as creamy as the Merc, far from sporty as the Beemer, it's not a very interesting motor imo. At leat it didn't impress me at all when I drove it (was an A6).

In the Porsche, it will hide it's weak nature with its torque on normal conditions, but as soon as you'll try to actually use the gas-pedal it will completely fall down.

:D This car is gonna feel like a diesel-unpowered paralytic snail trailing a big big piece of salad behind it and suffering from a severe flu.:D
