California [Official] New Ferrari California Revealed!

The Ferrari California (Type F149) is a grand touring, high performance sports car created by Ferrari. Successor: Ferrari Portofino. Production: 2008-2017.
It must be the one of those 2+2 GT's where the latter "2" refers to the standing platform behind the front seats.

Looks OK to me at this point. The current Ferrari design language mixed with new Alfa/Fiat styling cues (8C, Mi.To, 500).

There is no doubt what the target market is, hence the name. Though it could have been named after any number of countries in the middle east too. This is Ferrari's SL it seems. This car is going to do some serious business and I predict will become their best seller as the F430 ages. The F430 will no doubt get a facelift to keep the order books full. Why are they calling this a 2+2 when only a hobbit could sit back there?

M

I don't think that they would seriously use the term 2+2 as a pull factor because it's pretty clear that the rear seats are of the same nature as the ones in the 997TT and will be used for storage rather than for accommodation for people.

It has been said that Ferrari are planning on manufacturing 6000-8000 of these per year making this car their main source of in come. Like you said yourself this is Ferrari's answer to the SL63 an sport luxury roadster. As for the name it comes from the legendary 250 California GT. The sames goes for some of the design elements like the chromed frame around the grill mesh. Nice surprise since it was a while since we saw chrome details on a Ferrari.

The only problem are the slanting lights. They tend to 'pull' the face of the car forward, making it look thinner, taller and smaller.

Like the Maserati Spyder:

That was the biggest problem for the F430 over the 360 Modena. The air intakes tapered into the center of the car, making the front look pinched and awkward (in my humble opinion, of course.)

Looks awesome!! And it looks more appealing then the F430 Spider!!

3 HUGE problems
Front looks bad, sad, friendly and all other non ferrari things
The name sucks hard.. California? WHY?
And at last the wheels.. haha..thats a damn joke on a car that costs 150K
damn this sucks..
cause the rear is one of the greates ive seen ..

I think the car looks pretty good, better then the LA-F...

But the stacked pipes are a lame move by Ferrari considering the recent release of the IS-F and the fact that it just looks ugly on any car (IMHO of course).

^ California is an historic Ferrari name ....originally used on a GT designed specifically for the US market.

I'm very disappointed with the car.

the front looks so weak and tapered and the rear is a mess with Lexus shaped pipes,F430 over this anyday.

Ohh i see..
but i still hate the name..it sounds stupid..
or atleast they could have put some numbers to it..like Ferrari 256 California..

Official Press release

PRESS RELEASE:
New Ferrari California revealed: a hugely versatile, innovation-packed GT

Maranello, May 13th 2008 - The first official photographs have been published of the Ferrari California, the latest addition to the new generation of Ferraris launched in 2004 with the 612 Scaglietti and added to more recently with the 430 Scuderia.

The Ferrari California joins the Prancing Horse's 8-cylinder family which has always been defined by power and performance. It also flanks the flagship 612 Scaglietti in the prestige sporty Grand Tourer segment.

The new Ferrari California will satisfy even the most demanding of owners in term of its superb vehicle dynamics and driving pleasure. The new model will be available exclusively as a convertible with a folding hard top. Both chassis and bodywork are aluminium, in line with the rest of the current range. The California will be powered by a new V8 engine mounted for the first time in the marque's history in the mid-front position.

In line with Ferrari tradition, the new model also features several innovations. Apart from its folding hard top, these include the original 2+ concept which guarantees exceptional versatility of use in the rear of the car. The California's 4,300 cc V8 engine features direct fuel injection and a "flat" crankshaft. It generates 460 CV at 7,500 rpm with a torque curve that enhances vehicle dynamics and provides maximum driving pleasure which is typical for Ferrari.

As per the traditional Ferrari transaxle layout, the engine, which allows the Ferrari California to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 4.0 seconds, will be coupled to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission that boosts the car's performance while enhancing the driving pleasure, improves ride comfort and reduces fuel consumption and emissions (c.310 g/km CO2). The comfort is further enhanced by a new multilink rear suspension system. The Ferrari California is also equipped with the exclusive F1-Trac traction control system which made its debut on the 599 GTB Fiorano and has been further honed to suit the typical driving conditions expected for this new GT. Brembo brakes featuring carbon-ceramic material disks as standard guarantee superbly efficient braking.

In addition to sporting the marque's classic styling cues, the cabin has also been beautifully trimmed using quality materials by Ferrari's own skilled artisans. New accessories and equipment, such as the seats, steering wheel, instrument panel and infotainment system, together with optimised aerodynamics ensure that this is a highly ergonomic and enjoyable car to drive regardless of whether the top is up or down.

The Ferrari California is aimed at owners who desire a car which embodies everything the Prancing Horse represents in terms of sporty design and innovation, but also seek a car with greater versatility than ever. The car will be officially unveiled to the public at the Paris International Car Show. However, over the coming weeks, new photographs and further details about it will also be published.

In General in looks very good however the exhaust pipes look totally w-a-n-k:eusa_doh: (i can understand Lexus trying to be different to get into a market it hasnt got yet)

Whatis wrong with pipes next to each other:t-hands:

in fact i change my mind i hate all of the car because od the exhaust:t-banghea

Do we know which platform this car is based on or is it all new underneath? Looks like a 599 or 612 chop to me.

M

^^
It's a semi recycled Maserati Granturismo but with an aluminum chassi. It will be interested to see what the Granturismo cabrio end up looking like.

I want to see it other colors and more importantly with the top UP.

M

According to the press release more info and pictures will be released as we approach the Paris. So we should see better images in a matter of days. Don't like these studio images. The rear should look wicked in black and silver, Ferrari did a stunning job with rear end.

The rear looks like a TVR for me. And nobody complain about the exhaust pipe? I still can remember the reaction when IS-F was launched. :)
So..this is not going to be an entry level Ferrari, right?

Ok now i'm seriously pissed at Ferrari,God knows i love italian cars but the more i look at car the more i get this irritating feeling the rear treatment is a disgrace for the history of the prancing horse:t-banghea
