Portofino [2017-2023] [Official] Ferrari Portofino - California T successor

The Ferrari Portofino (Type F164) is a grand touring sports car. It is a two-door 2+2 hard top convertible, with a 3.9 L twin-turbo V8 gasoline engine and a 0–60 mph (0–97 km/h) time of 3.5 seconds. The car is named after the village of Portofino on the Italian Riviera and succeeds the company's previous V8 grand tourer, the California T. The car was unveiled at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. The 2020 Ferrari Roma coupe is based on the Portofino. A convertible version of the Roma was unveiled in 2023 to replace the Portofino.
I think the folding hardtop looks bad on 4 seat convertibles like the 4-series personally. Roadsters seem to pull it off more smoothly like the last-gen Z4 and this Portofino.

What Portofino owner has this as their only car? Hardly a concern. I really don't think Ferrari would've kept the folding hardtop at all if hadn't been for the fact that this is a heavily evolved California.

You can have many cars in the garage, only one once you are on the road.

I personally feel the case for folding hardtops is limited. Specifically: to high-end, mid-engined Spiders such as the like of Ferrari and McLaren. It's fine on the Portofino but it wouldn't be on the Roma if it was ever to go convertible.
The difference in insulation and refinement between modern soft-tops and folding hardtops is very small these days. So, there's not much to choose between the two and versatility is also no different. It's why we're seeing a significant reduction in the number of new folding hardtop models being released: too heavy, too complex, minimal rigidity benefits, little improvement in refinement, less aesthetically please when up in place...

If you're not sure about open-top motoring, or conditions aren't favourable most of the time, then just get a fixed roof coupé instead.

It's very climate dependent. In the northern part of the north hemisphere the hard top gains in significance.
When you have to clean half meter of snow and ice from the roof the soft top is not a good option.

Useful opinion but I have to say - if you're parking your expensive folding-whatever roofed car out in the elements then maybe you should get a garage first. :p

Ferrari Portofino M. Facelift version of the current Portofino. It gains Roma's drivetrain with 620HP.

"Ferrari will end production of its entry-level Portofino M hardtop convertible, a spokesperson confirmed to Road & Track on Thursday.

The Roma Spider, introduced Thursday, will replace the Portofino M in Ferrari's lineup as the company's entry-level drop top. It uses the same 612-hp twin-turbo V-8 and 2+2 seating layout, but eschews the complicated, heavy folding hard top for a lighter, more traditional soft folding top.

The Portofino M is an evolution of the Portofino, introduced in 2017. Before that it was called the California T, and before that, simply the California. The linage goes all the way back to 2008, where the original California used a 4.3-liter naturally aspirated V-8 making 453 hp. The "T" moniker was added alongside two turbochargers in 2014, bumping power to 552 hp. Power was bumped again to 591 hp when the car was renamed the Portofino in 2017, then again to 612 horses in 2020 with the introduction of the Portofino M. That's an average of 10.6 hp gained per year of production, if you're curious.

While the Portofino M and its predecessors could never live up to the pure, ultra-capable driving experiences of its sportier siblings, we still loved it. Hopefully the drop-top Roma can fill its shoes adequately."

This was also (in my search atleast) the very first video recommendation that came up when I put in the model name~

For some it will be last word necessary.

What you don't see is a Ferrari spinning out of control beyond the motorhome, rolling over and catching fire. Tragically, two occupants in the Ferrari were trapped and lost their lives.

IMO they were both at fault. The Ferrari driver did an aggressive overtake white crossing the white line and the Lambo driver didn't look at the side mirror. The Ferrari occupants can't to jail now, so yeah...

Agree, both did a mistake but the Ferrari driver did the biggest fault IMO since they came from behind and had the best view of the situation. And also the blue Lambo was already laying in the middle of the line when the Ferrari tried to do an impossible pass.

It’s hard to feel any sympathy for those morons, I hope the people in the motor home survived.
Apparently the people in the motor home survived, the driver and passanger in the Portofino died due to being trapped inside the wreckage.
