^ I don't know what facelifts stand for any more!

This car has every panel changed but the overall appearance seem to be no different but tweaked here and there. Call it major overhaul

Wow! Major exterior improvement. An entry-level Ferrari that I'd be prepared to spend that amount of money on if I had it. [I wouldn't have done so with the original California - putting that kind of money elsewhere.]

Ferrari has a history of modifying current models significantly to extend the life cycle of the product. Think 348 to 355, and F360 to F430. Or Testarossa to 412 to 512M, 550 to 575. Only recently they stopped doing that with the 599 and the 612 and launch completely new replacement for both after the 7 year mark.

Yeah I'd say this is an extensive facelift. It clearly isn't an all new car.

In that case there are MANY new cars that are in fact just facelifts then. Just because it happens to use the same chassis does not mean it isn't a new model.

Doesn't the new S-Class use the same chassis as the W221, or was that proven otherwise?

In any case, the 997 Porsche uses the same chassis as the 996 Porsche I do believe. It doesn't mean it's a facelift!

Porsche case is somehow correct. They even stated that this new 991 chassis is gonna repeat the same thing. 1 Chassis for 2 consecutive models (991, 992 perhaps).

Its a new model from normal consumer point of view. but for us, car fans, basically the same thing but tweaked.

Yes, I think it does, but nothing you can can see is the same as before in the case with the S-Class. This Ferrari has new front and rear ends, a new engine and updated nav head unit, the rest is the same. S-Class has a totally new body. Everything but the rolling chassis is new from what I can see.

The 997 was indeed based on the 996, but you couldn't tell it in any way. Again different from this Ferrari. Either way it is no big deal Betty lol.

Since when is using the same chassis the be all and end all as to whether the car is a facelift or not? What if a new car is designed and the current chassis works just as well? There are enough changes in this car to call it a new model.

The S-Class carried over some engines.

This Ferrari has a completely new engine, along with forced induction for the first time. New front and rear ends.

This is NOT a facelift IMHO. That "refresh happened in 2012 when they increased the output of the engine from 460hp to 490hp.

The Porsche kept the windscreen and roof the same for the 997, it is pretty much the same thing for this California. They have changed as much as they can without developing a brand new space frame. I think Ferrari can get away with calling this a new model, it isn't brand brand new like when the 599 was replaced by the F12.

Having said that, I didn't expect Ferrari to get it so right with the revised version.

Well in all fairness the V12s are as old as dirt lol. This is the third generation Benz they've been in now. I don't know what to call it really, but I guess facelift may be too mild. Either way they did a bang up job.

Yes I agree, it is stunning. Poor SL.

It is a new model. but with little less effort to start up from clean sheet of paper.

I don't know if it is right to call this California T as an ALL NEW car because it looks like the old model but has some extensive upgrades. But if it's an all new car than this must be like the case of the New Bentley Continental GT and the New Lexus LS which both look like the old model but with major improvement over exterior and interior. Almost the same but different in every area.
