This assessment of the 7er design by Christopher Butt resonated with me in terms of why BMW's design is the way that it is and the direction they're headed in.
Unfortunately his assessment reads more like a rant disguised as critique than an objective assessment of the transition the industry & market is facing. It's obvious that today's G70 is a far cry from yesteryear's E38. Regular, cooking model BMWs are a long way off the hedonistic driver's cars of E36 and E39. So what he's beating on about in terms of the new 7's size and spec is simply out of step with the way things have been for the last 5-10 years.

As for its looks, well enough has been said but if it needs to be stated again... Being what it is, the G70 presents a considerable challenge on the styling front for a number of reasons; most prevalent of which are the need for global appeal across all (and in particular, key) markets as well as presenting a convincingly fresh persona on the electric car side because it's both ICE and fully electric. No other car has been given the G70's prerequisite as a pinnacle luxury car that has to fulfil both propulsion requirements.

That's why it resonates with this bad boy.

The worst troll on the forum.

Is there a 4 seater option?
By moving rear controls from a chunky divider, they are now on touch screen panels on the door cards. This eliminates the need for seperate 5 seater and pimped out 4 seater executive lounge variants.

The five seater is flexible for multiple passangers and for two people to extend their legs in the back and.oull down the central arm rest.

It absolutely does not. No doubt there will be a 4 seater option somewhere in the future for the true VIP searting.

Despite some undeniably highly impressive attributes displayed on-and-in the G70, I wonder how many self-driving, private owners/leasers would feel "comfortable" (not pertaining to the purely hedonistic context of the term) behind the wheel of this car.
For those relevant individuals who are self-conscious about impressions that they make on others, I could easily conceive the particular experience as being a bit "embarrassing".

Of course, for professional chauffeurs and exclusively back-seat occupants, it is a totally different matter altogether.

In the last quarterly report BMW quated i brand sales including only the iX3, the i3 and the i8. Which means that the i4 is not included there but in the sales of the 3er/4er. Which in its turn leads to the assumption that the sales of the i7 will be counted as 7er sales and not as i brand sales. Do they go for the sales crown in the luxury segment?

This is a typical European issue to me. Speaking for myself, in principle I wouldn't have any problem driving with this 7er to my clients. The only issue I have with this car, it seems to dwarf almost everybody who stands next to it, who doesn't has the physique of Shaquille O’Neal...

That's a positive for me. Imposing flagship......and not the Moskva

Yes, I also suspect that perceptions (pertaining specifically to automobiles) differ quite considerably. And that's essentially not a bad thing at all. And in the end: "You makes your choices and you pays your money.". And of course, that's nobody else's business at all. And especially in your case, Mick: You are obviously using your automobile as a business conveyance as well and I totally understand the legitimacy there.

That it is, a flagship. If the 7er were British, I'd name it HMS Hood. By the way, I used to nick-name my former W221 Bismarck ;)

There is still a desire for 4 seater luxury sedans, regardless of the control placement

Yesss

I was seeing the same thing about the breakdown, how strange that if that is the format, the sales of the iX3 is separately under the "i".....
