^ Quote “740d is 500 kg lighter than i7“
The idiocy of BEV in one sentence.
I wonder how much weight of the rear wheel drive 740d is going to be. Because the max weight of non xDrive 735i and 740i are equally 2,785 kg.

P.S.: the least powerful 735i weighted 2,785 kg and the flagship i7 M70 xDrive carries 3,250 kg. That is 465 kg different between the two G70 models.

With maximal weight you mean the weight of the car including the maximal load capacity?

Holy shit... If the new BMW 7-series were a person, it would be a participant of "My 600 Ib Life".

And no, I repeat, I'm not a BMW hater. I just realised the other day BMW currently dominates my immediate family's vehicle choices:
Ex wife - X3
Me - M4
Sister - X1 arriving in August (To be fair it would have been a new GLC were she not such a bad driver. The X1 is just simply better than the GLA and GLB)
Sister in law - X5
Brother - Landcruiser 300 series (along with a G63 arriving next month, which I have made clear I will have custody of at least 1 weekend a month)
Mum - Macan
Dad - S-class

So.. uh... If you don't mind me asking, what's the current going rate for cocaine up there in QLD? Pretty high it seems. :eusa_danc

Model S is 600kg lighter than i7.
So if that is the gauge of idiocy, it is really the idiocy of BMW, right?
No.
Model S is much smaller than the i7. It’s only logical it weighs less. Not 600 kg less, but less.
The fair comparison should be to a Model S with an ICE engine. That would probably weigh at least 400 kg less than the BEV version. Like I said, the idiocy of BEV.

What makes it smaller? The power? The battery capacity? The luggage compartment? The space for 7 people? The BMW is huge from the outside, because it waste space in the most inefficient manner.
Model 3 is bigger inside and in the luggage compartment than the ICE C class and has the same weight. Where exactly is this EV lacking compared to the C class?

Well, you’re answering your question yourself, BMW being huge. i7 is almost 44 cm longer, it’s taller and probably even wider, it has more of almost everything.

It's huge from outside, but not from inside. The previous gen 7er has more room inside, despite being significantly smaller, especially in the height.
This 7 series is a disaster of a car. The i7 is at least 300 mm longer and about 200 kg heavier than it should be, due to the shared platform (for the same passenger and luggage space).

Like you yourself hinted at, Model S is is not 600kg smaller tha i7. Or you could compare Model S with i5, which is 320 kg heavier than Model S. Or you could compare Model S with with i4, which is much smaller, but still 250kg heavier.

Even compare Model S to previous 5er ICE model of similar power/AWD and Model S is only ~100kg heavier. I bet the new 5er, even ICE AWD models of similar power will probably be as heavy as the Model S. Sure, BEVs maybe slightly heavier, but the bulk of the 500kg you quoted is coming from BMW's incompetence/stinginess, not some inherent flaw with BEVs.

Tesla still being more EV competent than BMW (or Mercedes for that matter) is a given in my book. I haven’t checked it, but if i5 is indeed more than 300 kg heavier than a Model S, that speaks volumes.
I’ve once stated before on this forum, if (!) I’m ever forced to drive a BEV, I’d most probably buy a Tesla. Only based on it’s merites as a BEV though, not taking into account other aspects of why one would buy a certain car.
Do you know how Tesla performs in crash tests? A rigid and safe body weighs…

You can google, per Euro NCAP, it is one of the safest (link). I don't know how i7/i5 rates. But Model S rates far better than i4 which weighs 250kg more than Model S, showing weight doesn't necessarily mean safer.

Knowing what little I know of you, Mike. I don't think you will like Model S. Most car people, won't, including me. It is just a really efficient way to get from A to B for people who don't enjoy driving and rather be distracted from it. My reason for bringing up Tesla was not proselytize anyone to that/any brand, but just pointing out shitty job bmw/merc is doing when it comes to EVs, unfortunately.

Coulda fooled me as much as you beat the Tesla drum. A lead like theirs isn't overcome overnight, especially by a legacy car maker. Not sure what you expect them to do. They're going to be playing catch up for a while. Yeah Tesla has better EV tech, but they can't even paint or screw a car together.

Tesla and BMW started selling their first Evs around the same time (2008/9). The only reason Tesla has a lead now is because BMW leadership squandered a decade.

The first Tesla was a kit car at best. Now when the model S came along, sure.

Ok then. Let's compare the true first EVs from BMW and Tesla

Both i3 and Model S came in the same timeline (around 2014).

And I don't mean to compare the cars. I mean , to compare the EV development.
