The database seems to confirm this is the prototype of M70 xDrive. We can also slightly see the exclusive alloys. This looks like the M Performance Packet and not the Excellence Packet. The top specification 7’s usually arrive a year after initial introduction. With viewings underway initial debut should not be too long.
In this picture you can clearly see the vertical mass of the car’s rear, as I’ve written last week as I saw one on the highway in front of me. Makes the car look rather narrow irl.

You’re not saying anything. It’s just rambling nonsense. No there isn’t anything to understand. I didn’t say there was nothing to discuss. Discussing and understanding are two very different things. Some find the car ugly. Get over it. Preferring the W222 to the W223 is not having to understand anything. It’s an irrelevant to all the excuses and nonsensical bs being spun here to put this whale over. Like some journalist liking this car puts him on a higher level of thinking or “understanding”. It’s total bullshit.

I don't believe these journalists are giving their real personal opinion. They say this what will bring them the most viewers.
One thing IMO for this 7er is clear - it is made to meet the tastes of the Chinese customers. They have different culture and different moral understandings. BMW have calculated this precisely and they have optimised it to sell the biggest possible numbers for this car.
But it totally clashes with the taste of the Europeans and I can't speak about the taste of the Americans but suppose the case is not different.
BMW have made a clear choice, which market is more important to them and I would personally show them the finger for neglecting their previous customer base.

The Chinese approach is interesting in many ways as everyone has “sold their soul to devil”so to speak.
You can say that the design is catered especially to that market. I see the i7 as more of automotive provocateur. An established Conservative brand applying radical and latest automotive thinking.

It’s a mainstream approach to appeal to all these lesser known start-ups and tech brands which as they stand China are rapidly introducing new EV brands and models to catch the ever progressing consumer. But still providing that safe pair of hands in support and familiarity to the typical Luxury customer.

It’s tall and narrow. But there is no denying that it is a huge car even though it hides its girth in photographs.

BMW has a hot hand. Lots of performance, luxury on vivid display and always in the news, whether you view it favorably or not. Looking at some videos of the XM, it would be my controversial BMW of choice.

M
You like it?!? I’m trying really hard but can’t get myself to give it a thumbs up. That said, interestingly the X1 on the other hand gets my vote all day. Also if you look at an X1 from profile or the rear three quarters the XM resemblance is uncanny; which can’t explain why I feel so strongly about either of those cars in such disparage ways

Rory knows what he's talking about, he does understand
His summary is excellent.

Design: You either hate or love it.

Infotainment and tech: Poor usability and terribly steep learning curve - even for BMW owners.

Drivetrain and suspension: Faultless.

No. Wrong thread. It’s the XM I’m coming around to. But I have yet to see it in person.

The lady is the winner here. Why would you be with such a tasteless dude?

PS. I'm sorry for coming off like an asshole with respect to this car. It has some great stuff, and I want to like it. But, its hard to get over the flaws.

It would be interesting to read about the latest MB OS as well. But in the case of BMW, they had the perfect interiors, not sure how the have been able to blow this up.

BMW's OS8 which is in the 7er is about to be replaced anyways.

Yupp. It’s unfortunate. With idrive6 and idrive7, reviewers always remarked that BMW have the best and most user friendly infotainment.

I think buttons and switch gear will make a comeback. Manufacturers make mistakes. Porsche did so when they replaced shift paddles in the Panamera and 911 with weird rockers/buttons. Previous gen Range Rover had a dual touch screen setup. New one has a single touch screen.

OS8 is short lived. OS8.5 is based off the same Linux hardware but visually identical to the all new OS9, which appears a leap over OS8 (which is indeed bad)

How many more physical buttons and switches will iDrive9 have?
