Boy I just really don't llike it... its just not a cool car .

i think its designed to appeal to europeans - because i dont the 1 hatch will come to the U.S. - does anyone know that yet?

I think it still looks off in some pictures, but I think it looks really good here.

I think the key here is to not get the headlight in certain angles, it makes them look bigger than they might in person.

This angle is fine

For example compare the snout of the shark to the snout of the F20.
You can see there are rounded lines to enhance the features of the shark's snout , contours on the bridge of the snout and around the mouth.
Actually in a way similar to the F20 especially the details around the headlights form a lower point at the top edge of the kidney grilles in the car's snout. Whilst the contours on the bonnet and at the top of the headlights form the upper form of the F20's snout.

days later Im still struggling to like it. The side profile does look better in the new pics but the front just seems odd and the rear, too bland. The only glimmer of hope I see if that photoshop of the M sports pack which someone posted in the 'locked' thread. Will wait to see it in the flesh.

I agree with this, in certain angles. Looking at my post #43, the above image fits the bill perfectly, you can almost see the shark. In the picture under, the shark's eye looks heavy and sad.

Hah did you draw that yourself?

Actually it does. My penmanship was done in minutes though but it identifies the detail from the actual car.

I think it still looks off in some pictures, but I think it looks really good here.

I reserved my 'final' verdict and comment until now, I had too much mixed feelings.

There is a certain BMW-ness of old. A shark like front profile and a certain elegance that dates back to the E39 5er.
There are odd and strange elements in proportion i.e. the headlights can look oversize from certain angles.

Keeping an open mind and looking at the above photo IMO this is actually a stunning design albeit some awkward angles and trends but great overall

Mind the 'Italian flair' - yes Alfa Romeo maybe BUT think back to the 1962 BMW 700 + 70's Alfa Giulietta
and then again the BMW 2002 etc. I think you get it!?

The driving position, dash and interior looks like a nice - driver orientated place to be.

I like this car and i like it alot!

It does have some very interesting features which only seemed badly proportioned to me. here is what I did. and I think, considering that I haven't changed the design per se, the front looks kinda better now. what do you think?

I think we had the same thought here. I widened the kidneys and made the lower part of the front more pronounced and opened up the air intakes.

However, I left the headlights the way they were.

The headlights are not too big - talking about clusters. What makes them appear to be big is very concentrated graphics - especially the main xenon light projector and the LED eyebrow.

Try to put different graphics (projector design etc) into the cluster, and will see the appearance is completely different. Even with non-xenon non-led lights the look is more proportionate.

Btw, the M-pack resolves another "issue" (claimed by some): the "plain & empty" surface between headlights & kidney grille, since there's more 3D surfacing with sharp(er) lines & creases going on there. Not to mention all the added aggressiveness to the front the M-pack fascia brings.
