Best regards,

Expectations are very high for the new A6. I eagerly await the first bonafide road tests.

The new A7 appears to be off to a very good start in terms of unit sales as I now see them quite frequently on the roads in my area. And the A7 is not intended to be a mass-volume car. The A6 is.

...and...expectations disappointed ?

Autobild has a brief first drive write-up on the new A6 3.0 TDI Quattro with the 7-speed DSG tranny. The verdict appears to be less than ecstatic.

A better car than its' C6 predecessor, which should be no surprise. A bit less costly than its' M-B and BMW competitors. The driving experience is characterized by a sense of security and forgivingness, but is not very athletic as it remains front heavy (although lesser so in sport mode). The stop-and-start function is erratic and abrupt. Its' suspension is less stiff and jaw-jarring compared to its' C6 predecessor. The cowling covering the head-up display is unattractive-hard plastic and appearing cheap, not becoming for an Audi.

Nice car. Better than its' M-B and BMW competitors ? Very questionable. Pricing may be its' biggest argument. The E-Class offers a tremendously comfortable and pleasant driving experience. The BMW 5 series offers extremely formidable technology and impressive athleticism.

The Autobild article has the new A6 appearing a bit mediocre.

Very disappointing, I can't recall what they thought of the A7 but I would imagine it should be roughly the same, if not then I would question the outcome.

P.S.
That headup display is awful, a joke would be more accurate.

Autobilds' assessments of the A7 have actually been quite favorable, whether subjecting the car to an individual driving impression report or a comparo versus the new M-B CLS. That is a bit odd. Auto Motor und Sport as well as Autozeitung have complimented the A7s' agility.

Could it be that the suspension on the A6 is a bit more comfort oriented, thus only a slight bit differently configurated than that of the A7 ? And in the comparo versus the CLS, the A7 test car was equipped with the S-Line package.

Do you know what differences in the suspension between these reviews, like was the A7 equipped with air suspension and the A6 not or vice versa.

Air suspension, Drive Select + 19" wheels on the A6 tested by Autobild. The understeer ploughing was most noticable in tight radius turns on damp surfaces. The Sport Mode setting helped correct the understeer somewhat, but could not completely alleviate it. In the A7-CLS comparo, the A7 had the S-Line suspension + accessory package and 20" wheels, I seem to recall.

Surprising result then, I don't know how much different the A6 and A8 air is but in the A8 it's exceptionally good in all modes. I'll wait until I drive it myself and then pass judgement.

Im not that surprised autobild is a bit tough on audi.

In the driving impression test of the A6, Autobild does not appear to have mentioned the newly developed sport differential. In the A7/CLS comparo, the A7 was equipped with the sport diff.

Perhaps that is the reason that the A6s' road prowess was not unconditionally applauded.

Not really.

If any of the German automotive publications are a bit more critical towards Audi, it would be Auto Motor und Sport. AutoBild and especially Autozeitung seem to be more favorable in their assessments of Audis.

I agree with you Jimmy, Autobild and Autozeitung have usually been favourable to Audis in general. Though I am finding the difference in outcome between the A6 and A7 rather odd, they are basically the same car apart from body shape.

I dont know if its been posted but more reviews...

Autocar:

Probably not his particular one. On this evidence, both BMW’s 530d and Jaguar’s XF 3.0d S are much more engaging driver’s cars – and if driver thrills weren’t on your list of priorities, you wouldn’t be buying the gutsiest diesel model with S-Line suspension.

But don’t discount other examples of Audi’s new A6. Air springs may well answer many of our criticisms of this car’s ride, and even if they don’t, lesser versions of this car have much to recommend them.

Practicality, economy, quality, refinement and value-for-money considered, the new A6 is, after all, an expertly conceived and very well-executed product. But, as a car, it seems to lack character and dynamic polish.

LOL, that screen looks TERRIBLE!! Wow, what are they thinking?? It looks like some cheap aftermarket tack-on. Not to mention, the glare will be terrible.

What is with the steps backwards in regards to screen placement (A6/6-Series)?

I see what your saying.

Got to agree with you there!
The interior design is a vast improvement over the previous version. The center vents on the dash are a little too large though.

The body design is nice when viewed from an evolutionary standpoint. Anyone else might see it as a bit boring. The only detail I don`t like is how the tail lights terminate the design as someone pointed out already.

I can`t wait to see it in the metal. I`m quit sure I will be impressed.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
