It indeed has a more comfort orientated suspension, engine characteristics and much more sound insulation, than a normal SL.I find this model not quite as offending as most of you seem to. Although I am not the typical Maybach clientele, I can see the case for this softer SL.
That white interior, however, makes me nervous if I were the owner. It would not stay white for long, unless one commits to wear linnen clothing forever.
The Maybach symbol patterned hood is an option.I would hope you can spec it without that hood looking like that.

In my book, every Maybach needs to have a V12. That would be consistent with what Maybach stands for: luxury and opulence.A V12 would have justified it for me. Yeah I know the arguments against it, but still. You have a S680 V12 and a SL680 with a V8. Mercedes is suffering from schizophrenia.

It might be designed for the Chinese market. Hence why the launch colour is red. The Middle Eastern markets will likely also appreciate it.TACKY AS F*CK!!! When did Mercedes become this tasteless? With all that Maybach logo overload, and that HORRIBLE bonnet with all the logos…Just sad seeing the original Maybach concept evolving into this cheap looking thing. The SL should’ve been offered just as an AMG model.
And also, who is dumb enough to buy this over the Continental or DB12?
That part and beyond a handful of models, there is very little of that left today. I often wonder where they would be if they hadn't changed course after the Japanese arrived. Would they be like Bentley, true and expensive and lower volume or out of business.Mercedes Benz has completely lost sight of what once made them the best carmaker in the world. Mercedes' substance was their style, their image and recognition underpinned by reputation.
I think it's less the Japanese and more the moneybags American shareholder mentality. That part and beyond a handful of models, there is very little of that left today. I often wonder where they would be if they hadn't changed course after the Japanese arrived. Would they be like Bentley, true and expensive and lower volume or out of business.

Lol got it. So the response to my observation is basically “my friends and I who couldn’t afford this car didn’t lust after it back in the day” and “it was the only car for sale” which I am not sure if you are trying to make a joke, if you are it’s a terrible one. There were more options in the class in 91 than there is now.
