It’s the exact opposite for me. I would say the Maybach’s are the most blingy, then Rolls, Bentley being the last.
At least all the Rolls-Royce models I see here have understated specs, usually with unicolor, or some sort of a black-silver combination.
Everything depends on the owner’s taste, lol.
Most Maybachs sold in Türkiye come in a single color, black, and with a standard cabin.

Since then..."class" has been increasingly associated with "make-up".

Now imagine a new S-Class with proper 3-box design, with vertical headlights and all. How amazing would that be? They need a full redesign for the next generation, something very distinct and S-Class worthy.

Holistic, stylistic clarity/purity with integrity. No add-on afterthoughts, no multi-tone paint schemes.

Certainly achievable, I would think. The sheer cleanliness of the design would render anything that could possibly obstruct the visual flow categorically superfluous. Of course, this does not mean that the design would be required to adhere to aerodynamics defying, brick-like stringencies.

OT: If this was restored (which looks likely), was that the original hue or did the restorer/owner want something more adventurous? Either way, it looks amazing.

BTW, I think I've left my blue era and entered the green phase of life. Seems like that's the color I find most appealing on most cars.

This is exactly what Mercedes should introduce with Maybach sub brand as a stand alone variant. Let it be something sit between a limo and SUV like a Phantom. Definitely with a V12 & Electric options, high level of bespoke still not the price tag of Maybach 57 & 62

That's kind of what the 62 was, a modern version of the 600, both in terms of vehicle type and even its dimensions.

True, but 62 had more to offer than the hardware like personal assistance program & independent branding which resulted in a huge price tag, which is one of the root cause for fall of the mighty masterpiece.

Yeah a giant sedan that’s innovative, has the finest touches, a V12 with looks to match & about the size of the 62 would work if it’s priced right in today’s age.

Mercedes S-Class Maybach Facelift without V12 in Europe
February 11, 2026
The V12 engine will disappear from the Maybach S-Class with the 2026 facelift.
Until now, the V12 engine was only offered in the Maybach S-Class as the S 680. The long-wheelbase S-Class no longer offers a V12 engine in the V223 series.

The facelifted S-Class was presented on January 29, 2026. The V8 and the inline-six gasoline and diesel engines were revised and now meet EU7 emissions standards. The two plug-in hybrid models, the S 450e and S 580e 4matic, also received a significant update (increased system output).

At the end of March 2026, Mercedes will also present the facelift of the S-Class Maybach (Z223).

The Maybach S 680 V12 with the 6.0-liter (M279) engine and 612 hp will then only be offered outside of Europe (China, Japan, Korea, USA, Middle East). In Europe, the S 680 sedan, as a facelifted model, will only be available with special protection featuring VR10 armor plating.
Why is the V12 no longer offered in the EU? Is it due to EU7 regulations or customer demand?
A V12 engine runs very smoothly. But a V8 engine can evoke more emotion.
A look at the figures for 2024 shows that only 136 units with V12 fuel were sold in Germany. That's just 0.05%.
Even within the S-Class Maybach model range, the sales figures in Germany weren't promising. The majority wanted the V8.

In 2024
  • 220 S 580e Maybach (inkl. 4matic)
  • 612 S 580 4matic Maybach
  • 136 S 680 4matic Maybach
  • approved.
Even within the S-Class Maybach Z223 series, the V12 engine accounts for only 14%, lagging behind the 6-cylinder plug-in hybrid. The V8 is the most popular engine in Germany, with a 63% share.

Conclusion: Had sales figures within the S-Class Maybach Z223 series been significantly higher, Mercedes would certainly not have shied away from the effort required to make the M279 EU7 compliant.

Does it mean that armored cars doesn’t need to comply with EU7, because the Guard is still a S680.

I guess small series cars have additional possibilities regarding emissions.

A fair and understandable compromise engine wise. I would love to see a new V12 based on the M256M but I guess the business case isn’t there.

This is overdue TBH.

I guess the case is still there, put it in other cars and the numbers will be surprisingly high.

V12 is quite needed for a car this size tho, makes it run flawlessly. Besides the buyers of the S680 like bragging that they have a V12, They should definitely bring it back worldwide.

I agree, the biggest issue of the M177 is the lack of torque under 2000rpm.

That’s where a bigger engine really shines.

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
