I guess this is the benchmark for the new Maybach. Interesting to see how it does, it's certainly posher and more in your face. I bet the Chinese like it a lot.

Couple questions,
- does RR sell SWB Ghosts or only EWB in China? And it seems like the new gen Ghost started to penetrated the market at the tail-end of 2020.
- ~200 RR sedan sales seems pretty decent in one market, right? Perhaps Cully sales ate into some of those potential sales?

Which makes 15% of the total sedan sales. The BMW 5er has 50% of the sales there. Maybach much higher percentage than this (and all of them are produced in Germany, so no difference in the duty rate).

It would be about 255 units. Including;

Ghost I (57 SWB & 59 EWB) & Ghost II (3 SWB & 3 EWB)
Phantom 8 (123 EWB & 10 SWB)

(These are all that guys numbers by the way)

Out of the following (provided by BMW);

255 from 684 total saloons would be 37%, which sounds about right for the Chinese share of the market.

There's around a ~1000 (well technically somewhere between 963 and 1062) unit difference in BMW & Mini car deliveries in China, and BMW Group Automobile deliveries (including Rolls-Royce) in China (according to Investors presentation). So, logically those 1000 units are likely Rolls-Royces. Out of the global tally this puts China at about 27% of Rolls-Royce's market - based on 2020, which of course may not be entirely representative given the Pandemic and the model change over for Ghost.

What's odder about that instagrammers slide is he indicates the Maybach S sells 30× more in China than the USA. I guess this might be because the smaller engined Maybach's China gets are relatively more accessible there... but still...

Those numbers can’t be right. Only a handful oh RR models sold. 3 Ghosts??? 10 regular Phantoms? This is for the entire year?? Where is the Flying Spur? Do the Chinese not like Rolls Royce? I fully expect the new Maybach to easily outsell the old one. The new one is even more Chinese market focused.

Yes.. don’t forget that the Chinese Maybach has an S450 6 cylinder and I can bet it’s like 20% of a phantom or maybe less than that. That explains the #s

I’m not comparing the two. I know that the Benz is cheaper. What I’m saying is that Rolls should sell more in such a market. Irregardless of what Maybach does.

Mercedes Maybach S580e plug-in hybrid for China from 2022

The Mercedes Maybach S-Class (Z223) will also be launched in China as an S 580e plug-in hybrid variant with a range of 100 km from 2022

Only the S 580 (V8) and the S 680 (V12) are currently planned for Europe. In China and Asia there is also the S 480 (known to us as S 450 from the long and short S-Class) with 367 +21 hp.
The 6-cylinder version as well as the plug-in hybrid Maybach is therefore apparently not an issue for Europe at the moment. The order release for the Mercedes-Maybach in Europe will take place in spring 2021.
In Europe, the S 580e plug-in hybrid with M256 DE 30 AL with 367 hp plus 150 hp e-motor is used in the normal S-class versions (short and long wheelbase as well as with 4matic).

For China, the Maybach will also be available as a plug-in hybrid for the first time from 2022.

The S 580e 4matic plug-in hybrid is therefore also planned for the Maybach. The S 580 4matic plug-in hybrid uses the R6 petrol engine M256 with 367 hp and combines it with a 150 hp electric motor and thus generates a system output of 510 hp.
150 hp electric motor
Recuperation power 163 HP - so you get a lot of kinetic energy back into the battery even if the battery is not charged
28.6 kWh battery (larger than some all-electric cars)
11 KW on-board charger (3-phase)
60 KW DC CCS fast charging option.

All-electric Maybach is coming in 2023

In addition to the currently available S-Class Maybach, you can also purchase a GLS 600 4matic Maybach. A Maybach electric SUV will be offered for the first time from 2023. Then a Maybach derivative (X296) appears from the EQS SUV. It is still unclear whether the body here is identical to the EQS, or whether it differs from the B-pillar and it is then a SUL (SUV sedan). No Erlkings have been sighted yet.

You keep the new cars in a dirt lot lol??

Mercedes has been painfully slow with the U.S. launch of the W223. Even the configurator still shows the W222 S-Class range, which is mind boggling to me.

MBUSA is so poorly run and their website is even worse. Porsche's US website is updated the minute a new car is announced. Mercedes USA won't update the website until after the cars are at the dealership. It's pathetic.

That said, I think Mercedes should think about a regular (long) length S680 Maybach for those who want the luxury, but not the bigger big seat.

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
