SLK/SLC [Official] Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG

The Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class is a compact executive roadster, produced by Mercedes-Benz. It was released in 1996 and was built at the Mercedes plant in Bremen, Germany, until the end of production in 2020. The former name "SLK" was derived from sportlich (sporty), leicht (lightweight), and kurz (short). With the release of the facelift R172 in 2016, the SLK-Class was renamed to SLC-Class in accordance with the revised nomenclature adopted by Mercedes. Under this scheme, roadsters use the base name "SL", followed by the model's placement in Mercedes-Benz hierarchy, the letter "C", being the roadster equivalent to the C-Class.
Gross weight perhaps? Kerb weight + maximum payload.

Nope. It says kerb weight- 1840 kg. Gross weight is just below- 1910 kg.

Anyway, now that I think of it it must be a mistake somewhere. The difference between kerb and gross weight should be much higher.

The AMG site has different language versions. The US version seems to be accurate, stating a kurb weight of 3,472 lbs which translates to 1,575 kg.

Best regards,

Have you seen it IRL, Tarek? Not that I'm a big fan of tiny roadsters in general but I was truly underwhelmed by the sight of the new SLK. Especially from the rear it looks insipid.

I'm most impressed with the build quality of the SLK, its built just as good as any high-end Benz. If Mercedes would have just made the 350 sportier to driver, but then again that doesn't seem to be what buyers actually want, only the magazines. If feels like a baby SL in every way. Sheer quality.

Why oh why (if anyone could make sense of it) there is NO MCT on the SLK55??? Does not deserve this piece of technology this car???:confused::confused::confused:
The more I read about this so called new SLK55 the more disappointed I get.
...bahhhhh
Guess the sales numbers for the SLK55 will say it all in the end.:t-banghea

I don't see the problem with the design here. The first two SLK's were embarrassing IMO. The current one is finally simply "fine", or "nice" to me. They can be criticized for a design that seems to have less R&D and passion compared to other Benz models, but I think that it actually worked in this SLK's favor. The first two seemed to be trying hard to convey something. This one is just chillin', a little Roadster, a clean design, not M-B's most refined from a design standpoint, but easy on the eyes enough. I think they did a fine job with their car in this segment this time around.

And like it's been said, the quality is just another piece in M-B's new "no compromise" quality efforts, which is important (and isn't subject to a price point).

I totally understand what you mean. It's a strange how AMG has not standardised the MCT transmission to all mainstream AMG cars.

It is looking more and more apparent to me that Mercedes had designed and specified the SLK according to what the customer clinics told them. Basically that's what the 45-55 year old bracket customers want and let's give it to them. They probably thought the standard speedshift transmission will be better for boulevard cruising where smoothness is all thats needed.

Thanks Wunderkind for your reaction. It is very disappointed the way the SLK55 gets treated compare to the higher PS (HPs) models. In terms of design it sucks. Plain and simple. Shows the lack of attention and care for the SLK. These people at MB believe that by slapping a few cheap cosmetics touches this car will stand out--well, it does not. Anybody with a SLK350 plus the AMG packages has the same car. The motor is the only thing that is revolutionary about this car--thats it. NO use of carbon (Spoiler, Diffuser, rear view ext. mirrors--plastic), NO MCT (what the heck), no great weight savings. Dynamics and Handling--We will see about that....:eusa_pray
I think the bracket of 45-55 yr olds, would be quite happy with the 350--its more thank enough to cruise around. The SLK55 should be at another level. But Its obvious that there is not a clear strategy for the SLK55 AMG amongst all the other AMGs :eusa_doh:
Perhaps, the only reason that this SLK55 with a big motor and a poor HP is that the SLK55 Black Series is in the making...???:D
....who knows.....:t-drive:

Michael Kübler talks about the M152! :)

The Mercedes-AMG M152 5.5L V8 engine featuring cylinder shut off combines the ultimate in performance with the lowest possible fuel consumption. With a peak output of 422HP and maximum torque of 540Nm, this engine exclusively powers the SLK 55 AMG. The world's most fuel efficient V8 engine combines the lowest consumption figures with the superior power delivery and the typical sound experience which only a large displacement V8 engine can provide. The new M152 is based on the Mercedes-AMG M157 5.5L V8 biturbo engine, which powers the E 63 AMG, CLS 63 AMG, S 63 AMG and CL 63 AMG. Numerous design features are identical, such as the displacement, bore/stroke, distance between cylinders, start/stop system and direct petrol injection technology. Distinguishing features versus the M157 include the new intake air ducting, new cylinder heads, the modified valve drive, an adapted oil supply system and an optimized crankcase.
