I also think the exterior designs have left a lot to be desired since the original concept and r170. To me they feel almost like afterthoughts.

The market for small cabrios doesn't seem as popular as in the 90s and naughtys. Now almost every man and his cat and dog want a SUV or Crossover, which has killed the needs for a sexy compact sports car roadster. I personally am not a big fan of SUVs due to their increased popularity and also cause they heavy in weight and also heavy on fuel and would still love it if Mercedes would bring out a replacement for the SLC that would be a real sports car and developed by AMG.

Furthermore you can get a panoramic sunroof on many cars regardless of class.

Unless you live somewhere scenic I don’t see the point in a daily driver convertible. I can’t stand the harsh smell of exhaust fumes when I drive with windows in busy traffic. With moped riding thieves and acid attackers I wouldn’t dare spend more than 5min a roof down in and around London.

I don't belive that the SUVs replaced the roadsters. There is zero overlaping between these type of cars so the reason for the fall of the roadster should be searched somewhere else.

They haven't replaced roadster in that sense, but buyers are SUV crazy now and a tight little sporty car is just in favor anymore. It it happening to sedans also. Roadsters, sports cars and sedans have become far less of a priority now.

This has been rumored for years I hope it is true. I would love to see what AMG can do with new from the ground up sports car for a non-rich buyer.

They haven't replaced roadster in that sense, but buyers are SUV crazy now and a tight little sporty car is just in favor anymore. It it happening to sedans also. Roadsters, sports cars and sedans have become far less of a priority now.

The future looks bleak for mid sized sedans (Mazda 6 class) and even compact hatchbacks when Crossovers and SUV's will most likely become even more popular in the lower priced sector in the future, there doesn't seem to be an end to peoples love for these vehicles, even though they doing the world no favours with their higher emissions and increased weight.

All true. The Mazda 6 is a beautiful car inside and out now, still could use a more powerful version of the turbo I4, but it's a really nice car.

Its looks surprisingly good in that canary yellow colour. I still cant believe we saying goodbye to Mercedes small sports car........come on if BMW has the Z4 and Porsche not giving up on the Boxster why not a new SLK or SLC? They can use Alpine A110 chassis and what a brilliant driving car that will be?
