SLK/SLC-Class (R172) [Official] Mercedes-Benz SLC (R172)

The Mercedes-Benz R172 is the third generation SLK-Class (SLC-Class) launched in 2011. It is the successor to the R171. Production: 2011–2020.
For the next generation, I say soft convertible top with semi-attractive styling or bust. Hardtops have not been a novelty feature in years.

.

Suspension is the biggest problem of almost all Mercedes models nowadays. 222 is less comfortable than 221 (haven't driven LCI 222 yet and had no opportunity to compare it to 7 series),

That's news to me. I've owned 3 w221s and driven/ridden in numerous W222... the ride is definitely improved on the W222, much more so with MBC. The G11's ride is good, but second-rate in comparison (granted the G11 I drove for a while had M sport with '21s).

The ride is nice in 222 until there is a sharp edge. Protruding expansion joint for example. Don't know how to explain, but it seams that suspension can't work fast enough on some unevennesses.

Lets take artificial unevenness for example. The wide one is no problem, but if you meet something like the lower one from the picture, I think you'll notice the difference.

P.S. Almost every W222 is 4-Matic in our country. So its nearly impossible to meet one with MBC(((

It's news to me as well, I've never come across such observations..

Suspension is the biggest problem of almost all Mercedes models nowadays. 222 is less comfortable than 221 (haven't driven LCI 222 yet and had no opportunity to compare it to 7 series), 213 E-class is less comfortable than the new BMW 5 series, and 205 C-class is less comfortable than the old 204 and even f30 3 series BMW!

I've never heard of the W222 suspension being less comfortable than the W221 and dad's regular airmatic W222 on 19 inches rides superbly. But I have read many reports of issues with the W205 C, GLC, GLE Coupe and W213 E lacking suspension refinement. Certainly mum's W204 standard suspension C on 17 inch AMG alloys had a more refined ride than her W205 airmatic C on 19 inch alloys.

And you are right, it's sharp ridges and bumps that seem to catch out the suspension the most. Mum's C slaps and thuds over these sending a rather sever shock through the car into the cabin.

i have driven the W213 with the normal steel suspension and with the airmatic suspension. Before I go on, I think I should move this to the correct section. Perhaps to the W222 forum?

So can we expect a new SLC will be release in 2019 or 2020 or the SLC is dead forever?
I saw a new z4 is coming,i hope mercedes will not abandon this

I recently read where there will not be another SLC, and I believe it. It's a terrible car in it's class. I mean dead last. Kill it off.

Now what I think they should do is let AMG do an affordable sports car powered by the new I6 in various power levels. The new 00hp 4-cylinder from the rumored A35 could be the base engine, 400hp I4 in the middle and a 500hp I6 up at the top. Think Boxster killer. Forget the baby SL motif.

And who will be buying them? The segment is dying because no one buys an affordable sportscar. And read this about Boxster, apparently even Porsche is considering axing it :

Even Audi had cancelled their R4.

Very few people indeed would be buying. I'm just saying if you're going to continue to compete in the segment do it right, if not scrap it. Either way the mini SL motif is dead.

Now that the Mercedes-Benz SLC-class roadster is nearing the end of its life, a Final Edition model joins the lineup for 2020.
The special trim package is offered on both the four-cylinder SLC300 and V-6 AMG SLC43 versions of the droptop and includes unique visuals inside and out, including an eye-popping yellow exterior color for the AMG version.
As we wait for the SLC Final Edition cars to go on sale next year, marking the end of this generation's run, rumors continue to swirl about what Mercedes might be planning for its next-generation small sports car.

Over the course of its three generations, Mercedes-Benz's small retractable-hardtop convertible has become largely forgotten—both under its original SLK nameplate and since it was renamed SLC a few years ago. So the new 2020 SLC Final Edition model seems to serve as a reminder that the SLC does in fact still exist, even if it isn't long for this world.

Twenty-three years after its debut, the third-generation roadster hasn't strayed far from the formula of the original, retaining its compact, rear-wheel-drive underpinnings and retractable metal hardtop. In case you forgot, the SLC-class currently offers an SLC300 model with a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four and an AMG SLC43 version with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6. Both of these SLCs will be offered with the sendoff package in the United States, with the SLC300 Final Edition coming in Selenite Gray and the SLC43 coming in the Sun Yellow color you see here (pictured on a Euro-spec SLC300). According to Mercedes, this yellow is meant to evoke the launch color of the original SLK, a bright hue called Yellowstone that was out of the ordinary in the context of Benz's usual staid color palette.

Other than the color, the SLC Final Editions also feature black and chrome trim bits on the outside, five-spoke 18-inch AMG wheels, a black and silver leather interior with carbon-fiber finishes, and Final Edition badges on the fenders and the floor mats. They also come equipped with otherwise optional features such as memory seats and the Airscarf feature that blows warm air on the driver's and passengers' necks.

The end of the line for the current SLC leads us to wonder what Mercedes-Benz has up its sleeve next. One particularly enticing rumor we've heard is that Mercedes-AMG is working on a mid-engine sports car to do battle with the Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman. Hopefully by the time these SLC Final Edition models go on sale in 2020, we'll know more about what could be in store next.

So is this the final small sized Mercedes drop top to be built? They not going to bring out a replacement model??

The C-Class Cabrio still exists. We will have to wait and see if Mercedes will add a small cabrio to the A-Class range.

I feel sorry for the SLC. It used to be the entry level/sweet 16 car for Mercedes. Unfortunately it has been cannibalised by small crossovers and premium hatchbacks that aren’t just great value but hot hatches obliterate the SLC in performance.
