SL-Class [Official] Mercedes-Benz SL (R231)

The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class (marketed as Mercedes-AMG SL since 2022) is a grand touring sports car manufactured by Mercedes-Benz since 1954. The designation "SL" derives from the German term "Sport-Leicht", which translates to "Sport Light" in English.

Wunderkind of Wheels
Here we go guys:

Stuttgart – With the completely redeveloped SL, Mercedes-Benz continues a tradition that began 60 years ago. The letters "SL" have ever since been synonymous with a symbiosis of sportiness, style and comfort – and with groundbreaking innovations. The new SL has been produced for the first time almost entirely from aluminium and weighs up to 140 kilograms less than its predecessor. Its highly rigid all-aluminium bodyshell provides the basis for agile, sporty handling that has been taken to an entirely new level, coupled with exemplary roll characteristics and ride comfort. Even better driving dynamics come courtesy of the new BlueDIRECT engines; they are more powerful yet at the same time up to 29 percent more economical than the engines in the outgoing generation. Other new features include the unique Frontbass system, which turns the luxury sports car into a concert hall regardless of whether the top is open or closed, and the highly efficient adaptive windscreen wipe/wash system MAGIC VISION CONTROL; it supplies water from the wiper blade as required and depending on the direction of wipe.
Compared with its successful predecessor, the new Mercedes-Benz SL offers considerably more comfort and sportiness, setting new standards in the luxury roadster class. Added to which is uncompromising day-to-day suitability, which turns the SL into an incomparable all-rounder among sports cars. In short, anyone that talks about the new SL is bound to be talking about the ultimate in passionate, refined motoring.
Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars: "There are around 900 million cars in the world and thousands of models. But there are only a handful of automotive icons. Our SL is one of them: it has class, it has style, it is the ultimate in comfort and luxury. But it combines all that with incredible sportiness and dynamism. You would struggle to find a car that embodies Gottlieb Daimler's aspiration more perfectly than our new SL: the best or nothing."

Thats all for now folks:)

SL banglized :D

Front overhang is big, boot is weird specially from 3/4 front view. Can't really hate it but can't love it either.

Awesome!!! Thanks Artist, you sure know where to find this stuff :D
But now to the car...I don't know. I want to love it, but it just doesn't look SL typical good. Especially the weird front facia with the headlights. Maybe I have to get used to it. Hopefully...

I have the exact same feelings about it.

Front lights I don't like. I wish they did the LED treatment like the CLS, and not like the ML/B. And to be honest the interior looks dated.

Oh dear. :(

There's just something wrong with it..and it's not just one obvious thing that you can pin-point. It's just... off.
Even though the frontal overhang isn't anything out of the ordinary compared to the previous SL, it's that very squared and boxy grille and headlights which really push that front-end even more forward in a visual sense. The side profile helps a little, but with a front 3/4 angle, it is just awkward in a way. The headlights are simply too large, and the incohesive design of the inner edge doesn't work either. Of course with the AMG Sports Package the car looks nice, but I wonder how the front looks in standard trim.

Also, looking from the frontal 3/4 angle, that signature MB roadster side-gills and the character line that runs from it is completely overshadowed by the XL headlights. In other words, it wouldn't make a difference if they removed the side-gills.

From what we can see here (and also the spy shots), the rear is spot on and carries on the sexy rear of the now-old SL.

:(

Damn this car.. why is it so confusing??
Look at these 2 pictures:

I love the damn interior though..so retro..but cool.. I like it better than the SLS:D

Stunning car both, inside & out. However, I'm not very impressed by the way front lights appears. Looks a bit odd & slightly bigger! The rest is great.

Exactly my thoughs!!!! It reminds me the Volvo so much!!!!:eusa_doh:

Why on the earth the designers couldn't made the headlamp houshing to go paralell with the grill. I mean WHY???? :t-banghea And them the hood with all the flame surfacing. Obviusly, they din't use it on the sides, and save the flame surfacing for the hood. It doesn't look that bad, but could be much better!

Bruno Sacco, come save us!!!

The headlight graphics are really really extremely horrible, it ruins the entire front end. The designers could have gotten away with the over sized headlights if they apply the CLS like graphics inside them to follow the sharp edges of the overall shape of the lights. But no, they just have to use soft curves which simply doesn't work with the angular front end. The off set LCD screen has also appeared in the new SL. Overall it is a disappointing design effort from MB.

I just can't believe it, but Mercedes has (at first impression) goofed up the SL. There has never been a funny looking or ugly SL in my lifetime and yet this one looks a mess from certain angles. The heavy handed proportions, the "I'm high" looking stare from the front end and the goofy looking side profile. I just can't believe this. Then they've done a really good interior, I mean really good even if it doesn't break any new ground. I have no doubt the car will drive like a dream and be techno wonder, but damn look at it. You Mercedes diehards know damn well that this SL is not a pretty car like the R230 was and it surely isn't as handsome and timeless as the R129. The S and CL are going to be butchered too I'm afraid. The SLS Roadster and the current C-Class will be the only good looking Mercedes cars left after the S/CL debut next year.

The goofy headlights and the huge ungainly front end are just a mess IMO.

I see lots of R107 in that pic (grill, hood "angle").

A great design ruined by the worse headlights ever. The good thing is a very light facelift will fix this.
