SL-Class [Official] Mercedes-Benz SL (R231)

The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class (marketed as Mercedes-AMG SL since 2022) is a grand touring sports car manufactured by Mercedes-Benz since 1954. The designation "SL" derives from the German term "Sport-Leicht", which translates to "Sport Light" in English.
Testimony to the substantial "brand equity" that the iconic "SL" nomenclature possesses in North America. On the other side of the Big Pond, the SLs' significance has become highly marginal at best. Can its' successor change that picture ?

I see a bunch of SLs on the road here in Miami, and newer ones. Every now and again an SLC, but those are certainly rare.

I quite literally see more Aston Martin DBS Volantes and Ferrari Portofinos in the greater Hamburg area than R231 SLs'. Not to mention Bentley Continental GT cabriolets, which are actually quite plentiful here.

Tell me more its something thats crossing my mind a bit toomuch lol
I've looked at a couple. I'd definitely consider a last facelift in black with low ks. 500 or 63. I wouldn't buy now, right before they release the new one though, The prices will come down quite a but I assume. Or you may just prefer the new one.

Go have a look at a couple or even take one for a drive.

Yes yes i was actully thinking in 2022 around march

As crazy as it sounds I could see a facelift SL550 too. It’s an antique of a car now but it does have some charm to me. It drives beautifully.

The only real weakness of the facelifted R231 SL is its interior. While solid to touch, it looks dated and boring. Everything else is okay.

I hope the upcoming SL will have amazing looks and an interior to die for, as it might have to remain in the line-up for much longer than seven years depending on sales/production numbers and when the next generation electrified powertrain (better batteries, more power, more range) becomes available. I see Mercedes possibly stretching out the lifecycle of ICE/hybrid powered niche models to 2030 as priority is given to high volume EV models in order to recoup the high EV development costs as quickly as possible.

Very agree, not even when it was new, it was always disappointing in terms of design and quality, and with the passage of time even worse, are the things that one does not understand how they do them like that, in a car that should be admired by decades
