Saw it, sat in it..
will drive it soon.
I’ll get back with all the impressions then.

Oh boy this is going to be epic.....

@Merc1: Talking about - facts...
fact 1: you have no idea about that W223 or it’s specification.
fact 2: you never drove it
It is not that hard to understand.

1) why wouldn't he? He's been following this car for years.
2) you don't have to drive a car to call it a poverty spec. I mean come on now....there'll be plenty of poverty spec versions for taxis, fleet, chauffeuring, etc. No need to take offense in that, and absolutely no need to attack a user over, that's just rude.

You do have a tendency to get personal. You just dropped a heap of profanities at me in the new SL thread. Told me that I should stop buying Mercedes and buy a piece of Sh* Tesla... simple because I didn’t agree with you on one thing. I’ve always enjoyed coming to this forum to talk about cars, listen to others, and have an exchange. And I very much appreciate your inputs. I hope we can keep things a little friendlier in the future.

After 2200 km driving a W223 S 500 4matic here are some personal impressions.

Exterior: Was discussed in length here.

Interior: I really like it. Clean, innovative, and luxurious at once.
Going for touch only is weird, because its only “halfway touch”: The buttons are touch sensitive, however you still have to mechanically press it. If you do so you are going to press down the whole control panel which feels kind of strange. Additionally, it is hard to find the right button by not looking at it and without direct haptic feedback.

Touch screen in the center console is nice if you are not driving and perfect for adjust every little detail – and there are a lot. But distracting during driving because you can not control it without looking at it. Additionally, you cannot directly access the different submenus (comfort, navigation, radio, media…). It is nearly always necessary to go back to the main menu and then proceed to the respective submenu (in contrast, using W223s Apple car play gives you that functionality). Voice control is not an appropriate alternative because it only understands 70 – 80% of your commands.
Adjusting the volume by the touch slider? Hmm… The previous roller bar was better.

Driving / Comfort: Driving and comfort with respect to NVH is more or less the same as in the previous model but on a more refined level. In the W222 going higher speed was completely effortless, now they raised that bar for 10 – 15 km/h more.

The R6 is a surprisingly noisy engine especially when started (see the detailed review of Georg Kacher in carmagazine.co.uk).

Suspension at the first drive felt strange: In comfort mode you are experiencing a vertical and horizontal rolling as being on a boat. In Sport mode suspension is stiffer and similar to the Comfort mode of the W222. Now I am used to it, and it feels nice and comfy.

Doors:
In contrast to the W222 doors now cannot be arrested in every position (only three positions). Otherwise, they collapse. Especially in narrow parking slots this is an annoying issue because the door is always slamming at you.
Door handles inside are newly designed and similar to W221, i.e., they are again integrated in the door cladding. If the doors are maximally opened it is nearly impossible to reach the door handle in a convenient way because it´s simply too far away.

Small Burmester Sound system is equal to the W222.

Cost cutting:
No door pins for checking the lock/unlock status.
No nets in the trunk left and right.
Gear shifter and turn indicator feel like low budget versions out of a 3D printer
Small folding, i.e. make up mirrors in the back are gone
Reclinable headrests are gone

So if you want Keyless Go, you'll have to cope with those automatic handles and their potential malfunction. I was expecting something like this.

Also, on the German configurator, it appears that the MBUX Interieur-Assistent(voice control) can only be selected with black leather trim(maybe it's just a configurator glitch or temporary situation)

I would like to see one model designed as "back to the roots", boxy, retro. But not as these renders, that is literally W126 with redesigned elements. It should be reminiscent of old models (W126, W140) but not carbon copy of them, only with LED elements.

On the upside, these new handles feel so nice and solid in the hand.

S 580 4MATIC IS EXPECTED TO BE AVAILABLE FOR ORDER FROM MID-MAY 2021

One of the most interesting engines for the new S-Class from Mercedes-Benz is expected to be available to order from mid-May 2021: the electrified 8-cylinder S 580 in conjunction with 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Order approval then starts at the same time as a normal S-Class and a Mercedes-Maybach model.

8-cylinder with EQ Boost: sales release in May 2021

We currently expect the sales release for the S 580 4MATIC in mid-May 2021, then both as an S-Class sedan (W 223) and long version (V 223), but also as a Mercedes-Maybach S 580 4MATIC. Compared to the normal S-Class (W / V 223), the Maybach model (Z 223) will also be available as a 12-cylinder S 680 4MATIC, which we also expect to be approved for order in May.

Eight pots: the flagship of the S-Class

The 8-cylinder S-Class, which we were able to drive in advance in October 2020, has a combustion engine with 370 kW / 503 PS and 700 Nm torque. The V8 engine with 48 Volt on-board system also comes with an EQ Boost with 15 kW / 20 PS and 180 Nm. The engine has cylinder deactivation in the partial load range (CAMTRONIC) and uses the "hot inside V” known from AMG, which ensures better turbo responsiveness.

For me, Luke, the feel is quite the opposite; rather a light, may I say “plastic” feeling, not solid at all. Besides, I could move them vertically easily up and down for a half a centimeter or so.
I only pulled them directly out ! I’ll check it again when I drive it.

i really do wonder how significant the fuel economy gains are with these motorized flush-mounted door-pulls. I think it's just needless complexity and one other thing to fix when it eventually breaks.

A liter of fuel extra for every 500.000 km, most likely. So totally worth it.
