Mercedes announced a new CW benchmark of 0.22 for the W223 - see their press release.
But that’s not true for all the various base models having classic door handles, because they have a CW of 0.24 or 0.25.
Which means that the new S-class is equal or even worse with respect to aerodynamics than its predecessor.

This (mostly worse as compared to W222) holds also true for:
- weight
- acceleration
- CO2 emission

Also, on the German configurator, it appears that the MBUX Interieur-Assistent(voice control) can only be selected with black leather trim(maybe it's just a configurator glitch or temporary situation)

Correction: this is not "voice control"(which seems to be a standard feature) but some sort of gesture control system - only works with black leather for now at least..

40,000 orders for a car that starts at over $110,000 USD? Hahaha what competition? The S-Class is and has always been in a league of its own. What surprised me even more was the fact that the W222 sold 60,000 units in its last year of production; I didn't even think that was possible. The S-Class and the G-Class print so much money for Mercedes, it's ridiculous, but I absolutely love to see it.

That is very impressive. And to me, a bit surprising having assumed that customers would take a more "wait and see" stance in the forefront of the EQS presentation.

I personally know several people who are considering the w223 and been buying S classes for many years now, or many generations, and haven’t heard of the EQS. Given the styling, the S class is quite modern compared to the competition, but between the two it’s quite conservative. I can imagine the younger wealthy population as the main buyer of the car.

Take this as an example of ”why” Jimmy.
If I have two days of long distance drives in front of me, I’ll drive up to my gass station, fill it with circa 65 lites of fuel in less than two minutes, and I’m settled for the next 1.100-1.200 kilometers. Try do that with an EQS, any BEV for that matter.

Range anxiety is perhaps the most prominent factor with regard to the (non) acceptance of BEV drivetrains. The pace of battery development is almost as neck-snapping as the 0/100 km/h acceleration times of the Taycan Turbo S. 700/800km + range will become commonplace far sooner than most initially anticipated. The expansion of BEV-related infrastructure will be progressively fast-tracked as well. Coming from a many decade long petrolhead, I no longer see the ICE drivetrain as sustainable in mass production automobiles from the medium-term future (say 5-to-6 years) onwards.

Take this as an example of ”why” Jimmy.
