EXCLUSIVE: FIRST DESIGN DRAWINGS OF THE NEW S-CLASS PUBLISHED
The new S-Class was not only completely redeveloped technically by Mercedes-Benz, with the introduction of the new 223 series, the model also received a completely new design - both in the exterior and in the interior. We have the first drafts or design drawings of the new upper class exclusively before any other media.
Exterior design of the new S-Class
The design of the new S-Class continues to show a classic appearance on the exterior: with the short overhang at the front and the long wheelbase as well as a balanced overhang at the rear, the S-Class is still a classic sedan.
The wide track and the flush wheels with modern designs give the vehicle an additional muscular appearance. On the side, the so-called character lines have been significantly reduced. Elaborately modeled surfaces provide a special play of light with their sculpture. The front impresses with its status-defining radiator grille.

The front face of the S-Class is determined, among other things, by the headlights, which have the typical three-point daytime running light logo and are now much flatter, but also smaller overall. The door handles (special equipment) that are flush with the doors have been completely redeveloped for this purpose. They extend electrically when the driver approaches or is swiped over the outer surface of the door handle. Keyless access is via KEYLESS-GO.

The visual dynamics of the vehicle continue in the rear. With their precisely designed interior with a high level of detail and various, partly animated functions, the rear lights contribute to the high quality impression of the vehicle. This makes the new S-Class unmistakable in its day and night design.

Interior becomes a "third place"
With the new generation of vehicles, the interior has completely developed into a “third place”, according to the manufacturer, “a refuge between home and work place”. Almost all comfort dimensions of both variants, the S-Class with short and long wheelbase, on the front and rear seats have been improved. The feeling of space is correspondingly generous.
The desired harmony between digital and analog luxury has resulted in a revolutionary interior design with associations with elements from interior architecture and yacht design. The sculpture consisting of the dashboard, center console and armrests seems to float over a spacious landscape. The consistent reduction in the number of controls emphasizes the minimalist appearance of the interior. A fine step between the upper part of the instrument panel and the large trim part divides the volume and creates horizontal width.
New interior design in the 223 series
In addition to the up to five screens, the highlights include the large trim parts in the dashboard and in the rear (with the comfort seat variant). They flow around the passengers and represent the consistent further development of the wrap-around effect. A particularly attractive design for the trim is open-pored wood veneer, which is traversed by fine, contoured inlays made of real aluminum. The flat center nozzles with their four-person signature and horizontally mounted gondolas are new design elements. Two narrow, vertical side vents each form the formal end of the instrument panel.
Design drawings also from the Mercedes-Maybach model
In the design drawings, the seats almost invite you to sit down and relax. The flowing, three-dimensional layer design theme gives them an optical lightness. The different processing leads to different characters. The flowing longitudinal pipes in Lugano leather have a more noble and avant-garde effect and the progressive diamond quilting in Nappa leather and Nappa Exclusive is more classically expressive.
Just one of the many highlights of the new S-Class
Incidentally, the control element for the seat adjustment switch has been completely redesigned for the new S-Class. The union of the decorative part and the control element reduces visible joints. The geometry and outline lighting of the switch panel make the seat adjustment switch appear to float in the door lining. The newly developed force sensor system for seat adjustment opens up new design options. Thanks to the almost fixed control buttons, the smallest possible gaps can be created between the individual elements. This also makes it possible to make small openings in the black panel trim. This enables a filigree, slim and floating design of the control buttons. The force sensors also allow a stepless coupling between operating force and speed.
Up to 19 motors on the front seats help you sit comfortably - a number that points to the complexity of the technology installed in the seats. But comfort is not enough: the seats also play a central role when it comes to safety. And, of course, when it comes to luxurious well-being: all seats available in the S-Class have been awarded the AGR seal of the Good Sitting campaign.
By the way: We have published more real pictures of the new S-Class here - we already had our driving test in the long version of the new series here .
