S-Class W222 [Official] Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222)

The Mercedes-Benz W222 is the sixth generation of the Mercedes Benz S-Class produced from 2013 to 2020, serving as the successor to the W221 S-Class and predecessor to the W223 S-Class. The W222 has a similar design theme to the C-Class (W205) and E-Class (W213).
From my best knowledge I've never came across any of such drawing among the design sketches; more over few elements in this rendering strikes me:

1 - the radiator grille is larger and upright which can give more and next level presence

2 - headlight treatment is entirely different and have never been a choice among any of the development sketches of W222.

3 - Over all proportion and stance is very different from the w222 and total height of the car is the double size of the wheel which is the basic ratio followed by nxt level limos.

4 - There is no dropping line evident on the body were as the body is sculptured to look more classic with line-less character.

5 - May be Mercedes is looking for an ultra limo to live longer life than W222 like they did with W100 600 Pullman, hence a different & long last design treatment given to this ultra luxury class.

Oddly, The S-Class Comes in Both LHD and RHD in Japan

In a press release detailing how Mercedes-Benz just added the left-hand drive S 600 variant of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class in Japan we noticed something extremely peculiar.

Apparently, the Sonder Klasse (Special Class in German) comes with both types of steering position in the Land of the Rising Sun, making us wonder what would be the purpose or at least advantages of such a strategy.
To give you an idea of how messed up is the Mercedes-Benz S-Class there, just think about this for a moment: the S 400 Hybrid and S 550 (S 500 in Europe) are available with either left-hand drive or right-hand drive steering, while the newly-introduced S 600 only comes with left-hand drive steering, as does the S 65 AMG and the S 63 AMG 4Matic.
On the other hand, Mercedes-Benz Japan also offers the S 63 AMG with rear-wheel drive in the lineup, and that one only comes with right-hand drive steering. How messed up is that?
To refresh your memory, in Japan you drive on the left side of the road, just like in the UK or other Commonwealth countries, so driving a left-hand drive car there must be horribly unsafe, especially when passing another vehicle, as you have a humongous blindspot towards the front.
We are now waiting for one of our Japanese readers to enlighten us and explain to everyone why people in their country would want to buy a car that has the steering wheel on the other side than all the other vehicles on the road.
Until then, we've also sent an email to Daimler AG in order to find out why the peculiar lineup strategy in Japan. We will let you know if we find out anything else about the subject.

It is a old traditional prestige thing, the Japanese think it is better to drive on the same side as the car's country of origin.

New Mercedes-Benz S-Class is the Most Satisfying Car in America

Ever since it arrived on American shores in September 2013, the latest generation of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class returned to its proper place when it comes to luxury car sales around the United States.

In fact, there is no other luxury sedan on the planet that even comes close to the sales numbers of the Sonder Klasse (Special Class in German), and this has been an absolute truth for pretty much any generation of the model.

With that being said, it is maybe worth looking into what makes the flagship sedan in the Mercedes-Benz lineup so desirable, and it seems that customer satisfaction with the model is among the most important reasons.

The latest example to reinforce this comes from AutoPacific, who recently released their latest annual Vehicle Satisfaction Awards (VSA), an event which tries to identify the most satisfying vehicles on the market.

Not exactly surprising, the current Mercedes-Benz S-Class not only registered the highest overall satisfaction score, but also won AutoPacific's second President Award for achieving the highest VSA score in the history of the awards, which celebrated their 18th birthday yesterday.

The S-Class W222 was also the most satisfying car in the Premium Luxury Car segment, while the Mercedes-Benz CLA received the highest score in the Premium Compact Car segment.

“Vehicles that score highest in the Vehicle Satisfaction Awards are delivering value and satisfaction across a wide range of attributes,” says George Peterson, president of AutoPacific. “The winners perform well in 50 separate categories that objectively measure the ownership experience.”

AutoPacific's VSA scores are based on the results of responses from over 92,000 new vehicle owners, which had to answer questions about 50 separate attributes that range from interior comfort and convenience to fuel fuel economy and performance.

I again emphasis on this rendering. After reading this interview of Mr. Wagener about the future design philosophy I feel this design could be real

I think you are expecting to see Unicorns but only finding a pony with a plastic cone on its head.
It will be a discarded sketch from the competition designers each with their own perspective.
Initial drawings are never to scale they are used to find the best elements of their creativity. When the CAD data comes from the engineers that is when they can see if it all works. You would be surprised how many elements look great in an initial sketch but do not apply well.

Of course am expecting an Unicorn, that is because of my love to this mighty brand and want to see it in the highest place in the luxury game.

I just talked to my local MB dealer today. From my understanding the W222 S400 Hybrid is not offered here in the US. That leaves the S500 as the only standard model.
I don`t think it would hurt if MB bought the S450 name back from the dead as a 2015 W222 model. This S should feature either the new 3.0 or 3.5liter Bi-Turbo V6 with 333hp (like the 2015 GL450)This would make a very good entry level standard S-Class that would compete with the BMW 740iL and Audi A8 3.0t (both 6-cylinder version of their V8 brothers.)

I agree, a 367hp S450 would be nice, but I don't think they will do that until after the facelift and/or when sales start to drop. No need to introduce such a model now. The S500 hybrid is due in November so I'm told is the S600 Coupe.
