S-Class (W222/C217/A217) [Official] Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222)

The Mercedes-Benz W222 is the sixth generation of the Mercedes Benz S-Class. Body styles: W222 (standard), V222 (long), X222 (limousine, Mercedes-Maybach), VV222 (pullman), C127 (coupé), A217 (convertible). Predecessor: S-Class (W221). Successor: S-Class (W223). Production: 2013–2020.
Question.....my car was in the red around Nov 15th (according to my dealer this only meant I can't change anything on the order). But according to a forum member from another forum, "red" means I'm actually in production. How long it take you guys to get built after you hit this red zone?

Oh, first problem with the car....a failing ignition coil that has produced a power loss in the engine. Solved in 5 minutes with the mechanics but it has complicated our day a little....:( :D

^keeping that in mind, it's probably been a wise decision to start with the 9-speed automatic after it's been tested and tested and tested...
After my own experiences afore mentioned I now remember carmagazins talking about build quality-aspects of dashboard and console as well. If I find it, I'll post it.

God forbid this car is a repeat W220... that would ruin Mercedes.

Even the W221 had its issues with the hard shifts and valve body problems. There's always going to be little niggles on first year models, but yes let's hope they stay few and far between.

Come on, this is not rocket science, even rockets explode. There will obviously be some niggles.

Really?
For example, a customer was complaining about the check engine light lit in his new S-Class, so his dealership fixed the problem and also offered him dinner at the best restaurant in town.

“The problem was fixed immediately, but we said that does not happen with the S-Class, the best car in the world. Dinner is on us, “ MB USA boss Steve Cannon told Automotive News during an interview at the Los Angeles Auto Show. “That customer was so thrilled he came in the next day and bought an SL off the showroom floor.”

the good part of the day has been to see a CLS63 at the mechanic, first one I have seen....good looking machine..., but nothing to do parked side by side with w222.

Singapore generally discourages the use of automobiles.

Vehicle taxes and registration fees
All motor vehicles imported into Singapore are slapped with a customs duty of 41 per cent ad valorem. There is also a Registration Fee to be paid. The fee is $1,000 for private vehicles and $5,000 for company vehicles. In addition, when a car is first registered (whether new or used), an Additional Registration Fee (ARF) of 150 per cent of the car's Open Market Value is payable. All these make the price of cars here artificially inflated compared to those in the States or Europe.

I'm not saying the W222 is immune to first year "niggles", but a few months on sale and already a failed ignition coil and reports of improperly installed squeaky consoles and dashes? The W221 was released during a period of dismal Mercedes reliability, so problems in its first years were about as surprising as seeing the sun on a clear blue day. Hopefully the W222 soldiers on with a bulletproof reputation, so I can get mine in 2015.

The W221 was released when MB quality was rapidly improving. The poor quality ratings for the brand at the time related to older models from the preceding years (JD 3 year dependability study etc). The W221 was launched with outstanding overall reviews for build quality and reliability and while there were some minor issues at launch, as is expected in any car of this nature, it marked a return to form for MB. MB went to painstaking lengths to ensure the W221 was as good as it could get and they even played the technology safe to ensure reliability was top notch. It garnered outstanding results from JD in their Initial Qulity Study all the way through to the dependability studies.

In this day and age you're bound to see issues turn up online as owners vent their frustration and look for solutions. But a true picture will be found when the quality studies start surfacing.

Spied – 2014 Mercedes S Class XL

Based on the long wheelbase version of the 2014 Mercedes S Class, the S Class XL would be even longer, with early reports estimating a 200 mm increase in the overall length. Mercedes is currently testing the car in Europe and these images were clicked by World Car Fans reader, Mr. Marco Villars.

The S Class XL could add an additional 200 mm to the length of the S Class long wheelbase.

According to World Car Fans, the S Class XL will retain the 2+2 seating of the regular S Class model, and rear seat passengers will be treated to extra legroom and additional gizmos (that may include a larger entertainment screen).

Codenamed X222, the S Class XL would definitely get a plug-in hybrid system (as previous spy images show the Hybrid badge on the dashboard) which combines a 328 bhp 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine and a 107 bhp electric motor.

Power for the S Class XL would come from a 3.0-liter V6 Plug-in hybrid drivetrain.

Expect to see the S Class XL’s unveiling at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show in April next year. Given China’s love for stretched variants of luxury cars, it makes sense for Mercedes to stage the debut there or at one of the country’s other motor shows.

Further, Mercedes is also working on the S Class Pullman, which is expected to be even longer and more luxurious than the S Class XL. The Pullman will fill the shoes of the now-defunct Maybach brand, and will have the Rolls Royce Ghost in its sight.

Just read this article of Mercedes giving back $2500 to all S class buyers calling it the MB Select Program. Is it real?.....

It is, which is great. It's the Ritz-Carlton model of service. Now you can get the same treatment us long-time dealership customers do. :)
