S-Class W222 [Official] Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222)

The Mercedes-Benz W222 is the sixth generation of the Mercedes Benz S-Class produced from 2013 to 2020, serving as the successor to the W221 S-Class and predecessor to the W223 S-Class. The W222 has a similar design theme to the C-Class (W205) and E-Class (W213).
The extra long wheelbase XWB S-Class (X222) debuts in May of 2014, and probably with V12. The XWB S-Class is longer than the long wheelbase LWB S-Class (V222) but shorter than the ultra long wheelbase S-Class Pullman (VV222). :)

The Mercedes OM424 V12 celebrates its 30th anniversary today (see a pic just a few posts above this one).

Hopefully, yours?:)

Care to write a small personal-in-depth review?

Not mine, yet. It's a pré-presentation of W222 on invitation of my dealer. As you know, public presentation in Germany is on July 21st. The whole show will take place on a ship on the river Rhine. No driving, but touching, feeling and smelling it. Sure, I'll write a brief review of the happening.

^ Pullman would have two rear-facing seats, as it always has had and be about 1 meter longer than the regular (again, as always). Pullman is really nothing new in the S-Class line. This on the other hand is: pretty much the Maybach 62 version of the S-Class

So which of these two is Pullman, and which is X-LWB? I'm disappointed Pullman won't have it's own styling (like the car on the third pic has).

The back doors on those two are different ? That's interesting.....See how on the first one the window extents beyond where the door shit line is ? Whereas on the second the window corner meets with the door ? (does that make sense?)

Guys, but for me a Rolls Royce is a wardrobe.
Is too much square-there goes me styling.
S class is more elegant because it has a dynamic, modern and very luxurious. Of course, a Rolls Royce is a super suite on wheels, but not with me these cars.
S Class is more available which does not mean worse and is very advanced, and Rolls Royce too old for me.

That is the reason why I posted those pics.

So, which one is X-LWB, and which one is Pullman?

I posted Phantom picture as well, just to show how retro-styling can be done right. MB does have flagship in its history, and there is no reason for Pullman not to have retro-styling like Phantom has.

^ Suspect neither is the Pullman. The X-LWB (X222) is on top, and the one below might be just a test mule for it, but without showing the new bodywork around the rear doors?

are you by anyway implying that s class looks better than rolls royce?

A stretched S-Class won't do it. That is nothing but an increase in space, and that alone doesn't make a S-Class a Phantom competitor. A totally bespoke car is needed and if they aren't going to do that then they sould just concede that market segment and concentrate on the segment the S-Class is supposed to compete in. The car pictured above will NOT even make a blip on the radar of buyers considering a Phantom or Mullsane.

As mentioned by Wolfgang... The normal elongated S Class is just a mule for what we are seeing right now with those new pics.
It's very clear that this is the new XL S Class, it's a very good move by Mercedes that they differentiated it from the normal long wheelbase S Class and gave it the Maybach profile treatment with those rear doors and windows. It looks more upscale and majestic.

We can expect some Maybach treatment in the interior as well. A champagne bottle holder, a magic sky control in the panoramic roof or even they might give it the amazing monochromatic option ala Maybach. Magic body control as standard and more varieties with leather and trims.

The Pullman will be differentiated even more from the S Class group so it can be able to compete with the Phantom.

They should not only camouflage parts that differentiate the car, this way we know what they are hiding and asume whats going on. They should camouflage random parts of the car as decoys as well. Or maybe they want us to know whats going on without letting us see how does it actually look? I don't know, S-Class is really beautiful. Phantom looks awesome to for me
