S-Class (W222) [Official] Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222)

The Mercedes-Benz W222 is the sixth generation of the Mercedes Benz S-Class produced from 2013 to 2020, serving as the successor to the W221 S-Class and predecessor to the W223 S-Class. The W222 has a similar design theme to the C-Class (W205) and E-Class (W213).
New S-Klasse is the first (?) to get Active multibeam LED in 2014. See http:///2013/06/active-multibeam-le...r-bei-mercedes-benz-premiere-feiert/#comments (only in German)

Active Multibeam LED extends the existing system with a new dimension. Until now are the functionalities, like active curve illumination or adaptive highbeam assist are mechanical operated. With active multibeam LED the Engineers can operate each single LED seperately and so illuminate precisely certain areas and blend out very precise other areas.

The system operates in conjunction with the stereo camera.

With Active Multibeam LED the lights can respond more quickly and more individual to changing trafficsituations. New functions like foreseeing curve recognition are possible as well.

Daimler showcases nine-speed automatic

Daimler introduced on 18 June at the VDI Transmission Congress in Friedrichshafen its first nine-speed automatic. It will power all future series with longitudinally installed engine, that is, from the C-to the S-Class. Thus, Mercedes offers the automatic transmission with the highest number of gears in this vehicle segment.

The nine-speed automatic has a spread of 9.15 - so one can drive at 100 km/hour in ninth gear with only 1,100 r/min. Input torques of up to 1,000 Nm are possible. The nine-speed transmission is to reduce fuel consumption by 6.5 percent compared to the previous seven-speed gearbox.

Dipl.-Ing. Gerhard Henning, Director of Transmission & Drivetrain Mercedes-Benz Cars Development, did not yet reveal in Friedrichshafen when series production will start. But the first vehicles with this transmission are already homologated. It will replace the seven-speed version previously used in existing vehicles. Numerous variants are planned: So the redesign shall also include all-wheel drive and hybrid versions as well as a sporty design with a clutch instead of the torque converter.

So future AMG and other M-B Performance cars will get the 9sp too.(y)

It should have debuted with the S, but oh well it will be here soon enough. Now shock me with an I6 anouncement. 3-3.5L, turbo and up to 365hp please.

MBUSA is currently having private viewings for clientele in and around its headquarters in NJ. Unfortunately, I'm not in the area at the moment to go myself, but a friend went to a viewing. From his FB:

As a former S550 owner, he thinks the w222 is on "another level".

The interior lighting is terrible though, looks really tacky. Hopefully that can be adjusted for color because that blue is awful.

you can adjust color and intensity of color.

One fear people at MBUSA have with the S Class, is that it may be too technologically advanced for its regular S Class buyer who is older. But at the same time the hope is for its clientele to get younger...

Absolutely right... What's with the fast and furious color schemes???
Also, doesn't ambient imply a soft bathing light? Adding the footwells makes it look like the flood lights of a Siberian prison...
My only option is probably going to be white or amber, on a very low setting...

Guessing it may take a little while longer, since MB just introduced the new Twin Turbo V6. :)

I really don't get Mercedes' strategy with this engine. This engine should, at least in the U.S. market replace the "350" badged cars, but numerous articles say that this engine will replace the V8 "550" E-Class models. Simply doesn't make sense. This new V6 is barely competitive just looking at the stats on it, which makes me think on some level that it is just a stopgap until a new I6 family is introduced. I really hope that is the case.

Oh-oh... If few extra bulbs are going to make style difference, I think we may be looking at the next Maybach (commercial disaster, in other words)...

So I've been reading the forum for a while, but just joined... I'm emailing my dealer now to place an order and can't decide on a trim/interior color. Here's what I've got...Thoughts?

Ext: Anthracite Blue
Int: Diamond Stiched Black/Black with Black Poplar or sunburst wood or Nappa Brown Diamond stitch with Black Poplar, or sunburst.

I know its personal pref. but input would be great.

Thanks,
Robert

C'mon people its just a design, so much hate against Merc.

Sorry to the moderation team for the questions I'll ask.

What does "just a design" mean?
Where is the hate on a forum where the majority of the active members are MB fans and most of them even drive Benzes?
Interesting...
