That enjoy it.

Just my two cents regarding the S-class vs RR or Bentley thing,

I work with some ultra high net worth clients in Hong Kong, they can easily afford/collect whatever cars they want.

The most important aspects of a car for them are not exclusiveness nor image, but SAFETY and COMFORT. Generally my clients like to be chauffeured in an S-class to go golfing/work, not in RR/Bentleys because the ultra premium cars are far too high profile. In fact the most common car they own are S-class and Alphard/Elgrand, some do own RR Ghost/Bentley Mulsanne though.

With the MBC and uncountable senors/airbags built within, the new S-class is a no-brainer choice.

As I have mentioned earlier, the first batch of 150 V222 will arrive in Hong Kong on November, with all owners identified already.

Although not as prestigious, I also feel that Mercedes can compete with the "exclusive" club of Bentley Mulsanne or RR Phantom due to:

1. It has the history that no other automotive company has. History matter in this market segment as cars are not merely tools but a source of romanticism and who else is better than Mercedes Benz, the inventor of the automobile.

2. With this S class Mercedes has surely raised the game. The interior has that handcrafted aura of RR and Bentley and the aroma of aristocracy and royalty that is only available for twice or thrice the regular S class price.........with RR or Bentley. The rivals cannot match the regalness of S class interior imo.

3. Exterior design is also in line with the RR and Bentley design language and it looks better than Phantom and Flying Spur on any day of the week.

4. It is not new for Mercedes S class to compete with the top models from RR and Bentley. W100, W108 were as royal in design as any RR of the time and was competing with these boutique brands. W126 was again as powerful in appearance and used as head of the state cars all over the world, far more often than RR Silver Spirit/Spur. Mercedes S classes other than W220, provided a powerful statement for the rich and famous.

5. It appears the new S is superior in technology with MBC, ABC and other acronyms. This is the S class forte over Boutique brands as always.

6. Mercedes recently proved that it still has the cachet associated with boutique brands. The SLS competed effectively in the category of Ferrari 458 and Aston Martin DBS and the SLR was a sales success in hyper car category although it posted less sales numbers than Mercedes' expectation which imo were too high for the price of that car. Being less high profile can also be an advantage in the current economic situation.

7. With Ghost and Flying Spur, the same S class imo can compete effectively with all features maxed out and the powerful V12. For Phanotom and Mulsanne, the S class needs to be transformed into today's W100. Keep the basic architecture and make the necessary distinction in exterior and interior designs for differentiation.

There's a lot of cool video about w222, especially "Making of"!!!
But I can not find a link to it on the internet to see on my computer:cry:

This whole platform thing is really silly as hell IMO. What difference does it make if the car is done right? This new S is stunning, yet we're already trying to find flaws because of what platform it may or may not be based on. BMW uses the same platform for the 5, 6, 7 and have been taking their lumps in the press because of it, from the 528i to the Ghost and even the M cars based off this chassis has been criticized for weight and lacking the proper driving qualities that made BMW a BMW.

The W221 in fact was an all new design from the ground up and if Mercedes has further enhanced that platform to net this stunning W222 before us, then what is the problem? Car companies rarely redesign a car from the ground up nowadays, BMW and Mercedes included. BMW will lighten the next 7 I'm sure but I seriously doubt it will some ground up redesign made out of carbon fiber, they will enhance/lighten the existing platform and redesign certain components IMO. Same thing Mercedes has just done.

If these cars companies didn't tell you what platform is being used nobody here would know either way in cases like this.

Now a "Maserati" based on a Chrysler is cause for worry IMO.

M
just want to add that even the rolls royce ghost shares the same platform as the bmw 7 and ghost is 20% 7 series...

It's been there a while. For at least 3 years.

Indeed, just more pronounced or "in your face" on THE new W222's new excellent grille.(y)
I had a problem with it not being on the first gen. A-class and did not like it that much integrated with the upright 3-pointed star.

Guys,
When will the Mercedes gearbox 9G-TRONIC,was supposed to bein the new S-class silent?...

I wonder why the version with leather blue designo can't give another lacquer anthracite blue only...
My S Class with I configured costs 192.000 euros!
